I went to Loutre Osaka Cafe, I am a Loutre YouTube subscriber. I was very disappointed. You cannot make reservations and have to wait, first come first serve. You cannot charge the payment, CASH ONLY. Once inside, there was only one otter Coco allowed to see but she was so stressed as she was being yelled at by Otter Miyagi, another female and the male otter (her boyfriend) we were told was a biter so would not be allowed to be pet. They covered the other otters so we could not even see them. Poor Coco was trying to respond to the yelling otter, running around and crying. Miyagi was swimming and so Coco did not stay in the circle, rather ran around the cages area trying to respond and did not want to be pet by people. The cafe Sr staff would slap the otter on the side of her face to try to get her to play, but then Coco would cry, grab the staff arm and also start licking her private area and so the staff would cover that area telling her to stop. Note: Otters tend to develop OC behavior since they are wild animals forced in a small space the size of a bathroom, with toys and lots of people touching them. We only were allowed to pet her back and got only 25-30 minutes ($20). Coco did take a nap and at that time no one touched her. This visit was so disappointing, the environment, the interaction between staff and otter and the lack of the staff’s understanding of animal behavior. One staff said they get no training in otter behavior, thus they just make up answers when asked questions, like they are tired.. that is why they do what they do :-(. In comparison, in Tokyo went to Harry Harajuku Cafe Asakusa branch, where you can make a reservation online, pay the same amount for 60 minutes with a credit card, the space is as big as an apartment with otters, hedgehogs and meerkats. The otters played with each other and we are aloud to feed the otters even interact with them if they want. The staff seemed kind and able to answer some questions. Maybe Kyoto Loutre is better, this is where most of the YouTube is done so I am hopeful. It is sad these otters are kept like this. Note. The Asian Small Clawed otters are not indigenous to Japan. Reportedly by conservation NGOs, 70% of the poached otters from SE Asia (Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Viet Nam) are smuggled to Japan. Don’t let that government certificate allowing you to own otters mean they or their parents weren’t poached and...
Read moreWe recently visited Loutre Otter Cafe in Osaka, excited to spend time with one of my favorite animals, sea otters. Tucked away on the second floor off the main street, the cafe had a cozy atmosphere that initially appealed to us.
While we appreciated the opportunity to interact with the otters, our experience was somewhat overshadowed by a few drawbacks. One issue was the limited space within the cafe. Despite the small enclosure, there were 3-4 staff members present in the same room, along with 4 other guests, resulting in a total of 10 people cramped together. The otter to guest ratio was not ideal. This crowded environment detracted from the overall enjoyment of the experience.
On a positive note, the otters themselves were undeniably cute and displayed unique behaviors that captivated us. However, the crowded conditions made it challenging to fully appreciate our time with them. While Loutre Otter Cafe offers the chance to interact with adorable sea otters, the overall experience fell short of our expectations due to the cramped space and crowded conditions. If improvements are made to address these issues, it could greatly enhance the enjoyment...
Read moreToday our pax was 2. At the ticket machine i press 2 people then i put 10,000 yen but the machine gave me back 2500 yen instead of 5000 yen (the ticket price is 2500 each) the tickets came out 3 people (2 people for 1 receipt and 1 people for 1 receipt) Then i told my friend who speak Japanese tell a staff member to help because i saw no cancellation. However, it’s not my fault!!!! I literally push 2 people not 3 people. Eventually i saw another customers came to the shop. So I tried to ask them to get my extra ticket from me. The staff was so unkind and said No first!!!! Eventually the staff was okay for me to give them my extra ticket. So i got money back from another customer
First it’s not my fault. I came 2 people not 3 who gonna push three 3 people. So i think the machine got push for 1 people by someone. So after that i came to the shop i push 2 then i paid. Therefore it became 3!!!!!!!!! Who gonnna know!!!!!!! The staff should have handled situation more professional!!!! Because it not a customer fault. The staff should check the ticket machine that it was clear before letting customer paying money, not customers!!!!
I will never go...
