We were tired and hungry, heading back to our hotel in Osaka after a long day trip from Hiroshima. Most places were already closed—it was past 10, and Osaka winds down early.
I found Two Sam’s Up through a quick search, and we decided to walk a bit to check it out. It’s a small spot, kind of like a bar, with just a few seats. Quiet. Easy to miss. But the moment we stepped in, it felt warm and welcoming.
We ordered the pork and chicken curry, both with a soft-boiled egg. A few minutes later, our plates arrived—piping hot rice, melted cheese underneath, and the curry poured right on top.
The meat was incredible! Crispy on the outside, golden, and fried to perfection. But the real surprise was inside—tender, juicy, almost buttery. Every bite had that contrast of crunch and softness that makes comfort food hit deep. The curry itself was bold but not too heavy, with a flavor that lingered just enough.
My wife, who usually doesn’t go for curry, kept eating. She was surprised by how balanced it was—rich, but not overpowering. It let the ingredients speak for themselves.
The guy running the place was friendly, smiling, and doing his best to chat with us in English. It was clear he cared, not just about the food, but about the whole experience.
We were lucky they were still open. And even luckier to find a place like this. If you’re in Osaka and want something quietly unforgettable, go find...
Read moreThis was one of the best dinner experiences we've ever had in our lives. My wife and I are visiting from Toronto and we looked up Japanese curry to try and luckily found this place from the positive reviews and smiley photos. When we walked up to the door and looked in the place was full as it's small and cozy, but the owner came right out to suggest we please wait 15 mins and we could have a seat. Once inside the vibe was perfect, unpretentious, welcoming, cozy, with lots of drink options and a kitchen that felt like getting to sit inside at a world class food truck! We got edamame to share and I got the Hamburger curry with two crispy beers, while my wife got the thin sliced salted beef with green onion and a mango lassy and everything was perfect. The owner made good conversation and made us feel very welcome. If this wasn't our last night in Osaka we would certainly be back. If you enjoy really delicious food, in a working class cozy atmosphere, that welcomes travellers but is also popular with locals, you will not regret Two Sam's Up. This may seem over the top but on a 3 week trip through Japan where every meal is eaten out, it's incredibly special to find a reasonably priced, delicious, welcoming restaurant. These guys...
Read moreMy whole time here(2 weeks) I have been looking for a place like this. This place has amazing food, amazing atmosphere, amazing drink selection, amazing owner and chef, amazing food, and reasonable prices. Do not underestimate the small size of the restaurant, i would go here any day over any giant restaurant I have been. The owner is super friendly and polite, the chef knows how to cook amazing curry and the hamburger patty curry was the best I ever had. They have a wide selection of bourbons and Japanese whiskey. The prices were very good and reasonable. When I say I have been looking for a place like this I mean I have been looking for a place that felt personal, didn’t have to be the most expensive place but what this place had to offer felt like even though you were there for the first time they treated you like you were a regular. I spent my time here talking with the owners friend that has been going here since it opened and I will always remember this experience and will go out of the way every time I visit Japan just to come to come here.
2nd time in Japan almost exactly 2 years after we first came to this place and it is still beyond amazing. It was so good that we came twice this visit. Highly highly recommend...
