Hatta sushi — Restaurant in Otaru

One of the best sushi experiences I’ve had in Japan. Found this gem last year through Google maps and came back here again this year because we loved it so much. The restaurant is cozy seating only 12 people. Owned by the sushi chef and his wife, they are such a kind and friendly couple. They can speak a little bit of English as well. The service was a bit strange - the sushi chef was incredibly friendly and smiling , but his wife's comments could have been taken as a tad rude ( we speak Japanese and she mumbled under her breath when we took sometime to order, etc ). However , they were accommodating when we asked to change some of the pieces in the set and didn't make any fuss about it or charge us extra . A great Sushi restaurant in Otaru. Everything is fresh and delicious, the balance of rice and fish is perfect. The owner chef and his wife & staffs are very friendly and talkative. Most of the customers are non-Japanese around this place, and this restaurant is foreigner-friendly, especially for Korea. The chef studied all the names of fish in Korean.
