Huge tourist spot, there's going to be a floor full of tourists from Eastern and Southeast Asia once you enter. Even with AC, there's a stuffiness on the first floor from everyone breathing and yelling over each other about which chocolate their aunt back home would be more impressed by.

There's quite a few selections available, but don't be too concerned about anything labeled exclusives. I've seen Otaru "exclusive" goods in stores outside the city, so relax.

That being said, they had a box of Otaru orange Ishida cookies that was perfect with tea, would recommend as a gift or souvenir to bring home.

There's a cafe on the second floor where you can have tea and dessert. If you come in the afternoon, don't be surprised when menu items have run out. There's a waiting list, but it rarely seems to be full. Also, staff at this location seem to be able to speak and understand basic Chinese. The desserts are fairly small, so order two and enjoy the variety.
