nice! the guy who served and tended to us is Ryu Takahashi, he is really friendly and sweet. food is yummy and actually looks healthy. simple menu: you pick your choice of meat for the individual serving hotpot: lamb, venison or pork. pick a choice of dipping sauce (you can actually try other types later during your meal), and see if you want to add ramen for a more substantial meal (we did).
first time seeing venison (deer meat) so took it up. it’s thinly sliced, round pieces and not gamey as lamb or beef. tasted a bit more porky than pork to me.
restaurant was actually a bit hard to get to. firstly, location was easy to read from the map, but identifying the right building was pretty challenging cos it is part of a cluster of low buildings and alleys; if it helps, building name is 秋水something, facing main road and on the 3rd floor. secondly, restaurant name on Google map is Japanese but the restaurant name listed on the building directory is English (Ezo Kamuy). May take you a while to navigate but once you find the building it’s all clear.
the other japanese diners were polite and nice. saw we were tourists and offered us little tips to ensure we could do our meal properly, eg, heating up the soup base immediately and only using medium heat, or pushing the condiments tray closer to our side so we...
Read moreYes, I went there after reading reviews because it had no 1-star reviews. Add mine to it. This place is for tourist! 10 seating, 6 are tourists.
First & foremost, the young “chef” should take a break for having a cold. He was not wearing a mask and only 1 gloves but sniffing and coughing away while preparing the food. Why didn’t we learn about hygiene from COVID-19.
Second, from the quality of food, anyone can open a restaurant. We order Deer belly and pork belly for Shabu Shabu. These food were just unwrap from some delivery. Yes, “chef” has his special soup base but it’s not worth the price. 5 slices of pork belly for ¥1,400 & 8 slices of deer belly for ¥1,800. And vegetables, it’s come in a set but it’s not free and it’s not very fresh (whoever wrote in the reviews that the vegetables are fresh, he lied). We definitely able to get better quality of food somewhere.
Lastly, many reviews mentioned about many sauces to choice. Yes, there were but you don’t have much opportunity to try. The “chef” gave individual 2 bowls. 1 with some type of soy sauce and the other one for you to have the soup. So either you try to mix the other sauces into the special soy sauces that you can go with the meat or vegetables, or it goes with your soup. Think about...
Read moreCame here with my partner on a Monday night for dinner and had such a pleasant and warm one. We both ordered deer thigh meat which was tender and delicious! It comes with a huge bowl of vegetables, that when mixed in with the broth and a bit of sukiyaki sauce, becomes super yummy! There were free flow sauces available and if you were to top up a bit more money, you could get extra ramen, vegetables or even a yuzu ice cream. The restaurant was quiet and cozy, and the waitress Sora was so lovely and helpful which made this dining experience even better! Overall, my partner and I would definitely come back here when we are craving a...
