Gokuniboshihonpo Tanukikoji 4 Chometen — Restaurant in Sapporo

This store ramen is unique for having the niboshi or sardine-flavoured ramen. It is a tiny place with maybe 10 counter seats and 2 tables which each sits four (or squeeze in a couple more?). Food tickets are ordered and paid for at a machine at the entrance, which you then give to the staff. There are also service tickets where for 5 service tickets you get a free gyoza dish and for 10 service tickets you get a free ramen. Service is fast and the food came out piping hot. Note that the taste is very rich with lots of garlic and onion. Thick noodles are thicker than the regular ramen but soft and springy. Pork piece was fatty and great tasting. Try getting the set meal so you get ramen plus a side of rice, karaage chicken, or gyoza to maximize your calories. For a lighter ramen broth, go with the niboshi with shio (salt) ramen. The excellent ramen, and the shop located strategically at the heart of Odori area, Hokkaido. We went here while travelling this area. It was quite late on Sunday, so not so many queue. We purchase the menu from a machine, and tried a fish based broth. Something different from other ramen shop in Japan. The taste is nice, not fishy, but we can still taste the difference.
