Food was not served on time and took 2 hours 30 minutes for us to finish our lunch that too after we told them about their slow service before last order was placed otherwise it would have been more than 3 hours. He was serving people who came after us but not us. Another group of 2 friend families who joined later us also said of same experience next day when we met them. We were there for snow festival last 2 days and because of this time wastage we couldn’t finish the site seeing on the day. When complaint reached the owner/ manager who is from India, he came and argued that he already told it will take time which he actually did not tell so he was being rude and telling a lie on top of bad service. Moreover food quantity is very small for the price he is asking for. With a family of 3 the bill was more than 3000 when we just ordered one curry and nan and rice which is way too expensive considering the food quality , quantity with what one gets in costliest city like Tokyo. People go to restaurant to get their Stomach full and peace but you are guaranteed of neither full stomach nor satisfaction of eating for what you pay. Never ever recommend such a pathetic restaurant who loots people.

Response to owner

s irresponsible response: Not interested to respond to lier like you, but no response will let you think you are right so here is one and last response. even if its snow festival you cant reason that for slow service you offered. people who came after us were served before and we were kept waiting. had to call staff including you several times to take an order. Didn

t mention in original review, Ojisan (elderly staff) came to pick the dish when I was still eating, when I told him politely, I am yet to finish, he was still eager to pull the plate in front of me. When you didnt even turn after first time greeting, how do you know our order was delivered in 30 min? dont lie at least to customers who give you business. food was not delivered in 30 mins and 2nd order of rice also forget serving, not even taken for 20 mins or so. When customer has brought your rude and neglible attitude to light, you are now trying to hide that by saying customer were rude, we were very much silent and in fact when you came asking what happened, i said, "nothing. its ok." because we just wanted to finish the food and leave, but after that you talked rudely. so don`t say we talked loud. There were other family friends ( 2 families who came separately for lunch ) who are proof whether we were loud or not. btw,  What is Japanese standard? Mentioning food prices on menu is not sufficient, maintaining the portion and price balance is, the other two families also when they met us later told, they were aghast to see the bill after knowing what the ate. so stop fooling people by looting them in the name of business, we are in Japan for more than 10 years and have visited many indian restaurants, not a single one has had this kind of service and quality and quantity of food. You are talking here so bad language to customer itself tells people who are reading the reviews that how much filthy person you are. we a family of 2 with 5 year old kid, how much are expected to order? how dare you comment on what we order and how much? Yes exactly, its Iyagarase, disgusting and harassment. its the opposite way you see. Rather than taking the review positively and improving services, see how arrogant you are, that tells everything about you and your restaurant. If customers read most of your reviews they easily can guess whether it is real or fake review. so stop boasting your fake quality and...

If you're looking for authentic Indian curry, this is the place to go.

I came with a friend the other day, and have gone to the establishment previously on several other occasions. The food is excellent and the service is quick and friendly. There are three main choices of style of curry: chicken, vegetarian, and mutton. Within each style there are a variety of flavours, and you can choose the spiciness from quite mild to quite hot. There is also a wide selection of naan and other very tasty sides. The amount of curry is of a single serving - so it is best, I think, if you also get a side of naan (try the garlic!) to eat with your meal.

The only time there's ever been a mistake in an order that I had, the staff simply asked what the meal was supposed to be, and replaced it without complaint. The proprietors are professional, friendly, warm hearted, and genuine.

Also, importantly for those people who use it, there is prayer space available, and if it is of interest, there are also astrology readings, and yoga!

The only drawback at this location is that there is smoking permitted inside the establishment, so you may end up next to a smoker, which detracts a bit from the overall enjoyment. If it were a non-smoking environment, it would be fantastic. (This is literally the only reason I give it 4 stars - I am very allergic to cigarettes, and smokers always detract from the quality of an eatery).

The prices are a bit on the higher side - but considering the quality of the food (again, it's excellent), I believe they're very reasonable. I believe that the quality of the food I have always received at this establishment is worth every yen I have ever spent.

While I live in Sapporo, I come from a place where access to genuine Indian food is taken for granted - so to find a restaurant where I can enjoy this authenticity, it is a real treat!

In short - if you're looking for Indian curry - don't miss out on this gem of a restaurant!

The Best Vegetarian Restaurant in All of Japan – A Hidden Gem in Sapporo!

If you're searching for authentic Indian vegetarian food in Japan, your journey ends here. Jyoti – The Door to India isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a soulful experience that transports you straight to the heart of India, right from the streets of Sapporo.

From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with warm smiles and the comforting aroma of Indian spices that felt like home. The ambiance is cozy yet vibrant, perfectly blending Indian tradition with Japanese elegance.

We tried their North Indian dishes, paneer tikka, dal makhani, and butter naan — every bite was pure magic. The flavors were not only authentic, they were crafted with love. The paneer was fresh and melt-in-mouth, and the dal had that rich, slow-cooked depth that’s rare to find outside India.

What sets Jyoti apart is their attention to detail — the use of pure ingredients, house-made spices, and the kind of warmth that only a true Indian kitchen can provide. Even the masala chai at the end was so perfect, I could close my eyes and feel like I was in Delhi.

Vegetarian travelers, listen up: this is the BEST vegetarian restaurant in Japan. Whether you're a local, a tourist, or just someone craving honest, delicious Indian food, Jyoti is a must-visit.

Rating: 10/10 Would fly back to Sapporo just...

3.5 stars. This restaurant is one of the highest rated restaurants in all of Sapporo. It doesn’t meet that standard in my opinion, but it is good. We enjoyed our Chicken Tikka Masala and our vegetable curry. All curries come with different variable spice levels. One thing I really appreciated about Jyoti was that their “Hot” spice level is actually hot (unlike many restaurants in Japan). I can’t imagine trying their 2X Hot spice level; I assume that’s reserved for the real professionals. Bottom line: both curries were flavorful and the portions and price were fine. We also appreciated the prices at the restaurant, which we found reasonable. The price of drinks were on the less expensive end for the area. Entrees are priced about average for the area. The ambiance at the restaurant is fine; not particularly impressive or inviting, but fine … In terms of service, we’ve seen some of the management replies to reviewers on Google Maps, so we’re a bit concerned going in, but the food was served quickly and staff were attentive. The restaurant is also quite clean. Hard to tell if we will come back for a repeat visit. I would likely be inclined to try one of Sapporo’s other Indian restaurants before coming back.

I’m from India. I visited the restaurant in May ‘25 during my Japan trip. I went to Jyoti as I was really craving some Indian spices and food, and this appeared as the highest rated Indian restaurant in Sapporo. There was no waiting time for me as there was only one other Indian family at the restaurant when I reached. The owner is very welcoming and hospitable. He loves interacting with his guests, specially if you’re from India! The food was decent enough to satiate my craving, but of course I’ll be highly biased cuz I’m from India itself. I can see ppl who don’t have access to actual Indian food from India loving their dishes, because the food is indeed pretty decent. My favorite items were the mix raita and aloo jeera. The butter chicken and roti were alright. The service time was okay as there is only one server. You can visit the place if you’re in the vicinity, and are craving or would like to try some Indian food. The pricing is a bit on the higher side. Also, just a suggestion, please update the playlist to maybe play some Indian classical or movie songs.

Decent Indian food for those craving for Indian food in Hokkaido. Tried this place for dinner. Place is v conveniently located near Odori subway Station, on 7th floor in wakatsuki building. The food: We ordered Chicken tikka masala. Paneer butter masala, Daal maharani, Veg biryani, Tandoori roti and naan. Chicken masala and paneer butter masala were quite ok, Tandoori roti was v good and so was naan. Daal maharani was just OK while veg biryani was too spicy. Portions of the food were decent while naan size was quite big. Service: Service was quick and they offer you warm towel when you get seated which is a nice gesture. Staff and the owner were quite friendly and chatted with us. Ambience: Ambience is OK, not too mice but not too bad either. Dinner for 4 costed Japanese Yen 8590 (~sgd 85) which is a bit expensive but considering Indian food is usually expensive in far off locations it was fine, specially once you are carving for Indian food in foreign country.
