The food here is excellent, with a wide variety to choose from. There’s also a great selection of sake and shochu, which we really enjoyed. Just a heads up: ordering is done through an app, so make sure to bring a smartphone. The app menu is slightly different from the printed version on the tables and online, which can be a little confusing at first.
We loved everything we ordered. The only dish that didn’t quite work for us was the chawanmushi, which was served cold. It was part of the otoshi (473 yen per person), so we hadn’t actually ordered it ourselves. Maybe that’s the usual style here, and it seems other diners enjoy it, but it wasn’t to our taste.
The vibe inside is loud and lively, with staff calling out more than the usual greetings. We didn’t understand what was being said, but it definitely added energy to the atmosphere.
The only real downside was people smoking at the bar while we were eating, which was a bit unpleasant. Still, it’s something that’s fairly common in Japan.
Yujiro, the host, really made our visit special. He’s full of personality and had us laughing throughout the night. When we told him how many positive Google reviews he has, he seemed genuinely surprised and delighted. A fun and memorable...
Read moreGreat cosy place for shabu shabu located in Susukino. If you aren’t from japan and can’t read the menu get ready to get ripped off! The menu for English is on a tablet, you scroll through the menu with simple menu names with no descriptions. We wanted beef shabu shabu that night and this restaurant had a 1200 yen beef tongue special (sounded really good). The staff member said you need to order for two people and must order a drink each. What they did not tell us and we thought was complimentary was the custard egg that served up first before bring out the plate of beef tongue to find a plate of max. 8-10 pieces each. Perhaps it could be reasonable, but if you go elsewhere in Susukino you will find better shabu shabu all you eat for a bit more $$ which I recommend because the portions for other items on the menu are small also. Apart from the language barrier and unprofessional explanation of the menu, the beef was good quality and tasted nice at least. Please note that the prices you see on the menu is not including tax so be prepared to...
Read moreGreat Izakaya! Highly recommend! Nice decor with great customer service. English may not be a strong point but they make up in courteousness. Price is reasonable too, though on the higher side. Ordered the oysters, which are large, fresh, and delicious. Then tried the Hokkaido beef rump. It was served medium rare, but I like my rump more on the medium well side due to the fat deposits. They had no issues putting it back on the grill for a little longer. Good natural flavor. The Tsukune was great! Good balance of flavor as well as being a large portion. Then finished off the meal with an order of Hamachi sashimi. Served with raw and seared slices. Very tasty and a great price for the quality and quantity. Good assortment of drinks from sake to wines, with cocktails and highballs in between. Sat in front of the chef, who had no problems taking my order or getting someone to help me. Ambience and general mood of the guests were...
