I’m sorry but this place is just not worth waiting hours for. Even in the summer the wait was about an hour to get in for dinner and another 30 mins to get your food even though they’ve asked you for your order while you were in line. Yes, this is for suage2 and not the original where the line was even worse! It’s actually really spacious inside. The food is really just very meh. I’ve had multiple soup curries in Hokkaido and I came here because I was craving a soup curry on this particular day and wanted to try this spot because of all the rave reviews. But it is just. so. Disappointing. If you’ve never had soup curry before this is probably quite interesting but the soup curry here was probably the worst soup curry I’ve had in Hokkaido and yet had the longest lines. The broth just did not have the depth of the ones at other places, and it sure tasted like curry soup but everything else was subpar about it. The veggies were older and more fibrous, the famous chicken skewers didn’t quite have a char or a unique flavor. I honestly think they’re having trouble maintaining the quality with the crowds. Perhaps it was good before but it ain’t now. If you’re headed out of Sapporo, just do a google for another soup curry place and chances are it’s gonna be better this one with a far more reasonable wait time. I think all the tour groups kind of just drop people off here and so the lines are out of control, but it definitely does not deserve the hype. Soup curry is pretty common in Hokkaido so do yourself a favor and save your time in this city and eat elsewhere. I saw not one Japanese customer eating here the entire ~2 hours+ I spent in this place. It’s definitely a tourist trap. (My photo is so bad because by that point I was just so irritated with waiting I couldn’t be bothered to take a decent photo). That said, the food is edible, it’s definitely OK, it’s ok to eat at if there’s no wait ever, but chances...
Read moreGot diarrhea after eating here, my friends and I eat exactly the same thing for the whole day, the only thing different is I came to suage and they didn’t eat at night, next morning stomach felt awful and I had diarrhea, I’ve eaten at hundreds of restaurants in Japan and this was the first time I’ve gotten diarrhea from a restaurant.
Food review: Soup was thin didn’t have much flavour, small portions, vegetables didnt have any flavor, I went to Ramai the day before and in terms of portion, quality and flavour it was much much better. Objectively without bias.
Service: I went with my friend but he wasn’t hungry, they said he had to place an order as well, each person has to order an item. But the drinks and side menu items were overpriced so they forced my friend to leave, I had to eat alone. I’ve never had this type of issue in Japan before, I would understand if it was a small restaurant with people waiting, but it really close to closing time (was around 8pm, they close at 8:30pm) and there wasn’t many people at the restaurant.
Overall, please avoid this restaurant at all costs. I’m not sure if the other suage restaurants are ok, but suage 2 should...
Read moreI had the vegetable soup curry with the basic broth. For toppings I had Hokkaido fried chicken and the cheese on rice.
The broth wasn't really exciting. It was okay, but it lacked something to really set it apart from any other soup curry. The skewered vegetables, a potato and a carrot, were much too large. They didn't take on any of the flavour of the broth, which meant they just tasted like boiled vegetables. I also found the broccoli to be quite bland. In my opinion, the hard boiled egg was too well done. I would have preferred to have some of the yolk mix in with the broth. I also feel that the rice was quite dry.
I did enjoy the lotus root and the grilled kabocha. I think that soup curry is best with vegetables that aren't too thick. You should be able to taste some of the broth's flavour with the vegetables. I also really liked the fried chicken.
I don't think that this soup curry is worth the hype. If you ever find yourself in Takaoka city in Toyama prefecture, Soup Curry Maruna makes a much better bowl...
