Rokumonsen — Restaurant in Shimoda

本当にいい伝統的な和風料理・居酒屋です！サービスもいいし、料理屋さんは英語ができなくて、私の日本語がそれほどよくないのに、親切に外国人の私たちに食べ方とか教えたりくれました。外からそれほどすごいとは見えないと思いますが、中に入って穏やかで暖かい雰囲気の中で美味しい料理を楽しませてもらいました。値段も結構安い。お勧めします!

This is a great, traditional place, run by an old couple who were kind and gave great service. The chef took his time to tell us about the food and gently advised us how we should eat it, since as foreigners we got some things wrong first ;) It's a cozy and quiet place, we were the only ones in there (in March, which is off-season). They only speak Japanese and the menus are Japanese too (in kanji) so you probably need to know at least some Japanese to make it work. The food was delicious, I recommend trying their umeboshi!
