My wife has left a review which was negative. Bar Mer management have replied very very aggressively.
We asked for replacement with the same wine because the wine we were served tasted of vinegar and smelt faulty, not because it was cold. A member of staff tasted the 1/2cm Bar Mer had saved in the fridge after pouring ours and agreed that it was off.
We then asked if the replacement could be from a from temperature bottle. (Bar Mer could put the newly opened bottle in the fridge afterwards so no need to buy a whole one as they now suggest).
Bar Mer are right. It doesn’t take a long time to prepare cold cuts of meat. But it did take an hour from my ordering it to me getting it. No idea why. Other customers food also appeared to take a long time to arrive. Initially there was one member of staff for 9 customers, and a second arrived after 30 minutes.
My wife appeared to be served frozen prawns reheated in hot water, cut in half to display them as more than there were. She loves prawns. She eats them regularly in Japan. These were hard, rubbery, and tasteless. This is nothing to do with Bar Mer not being a high end seafood restaurant. We routinely eat in Izakaya when we are in Japan and have not had this problem before.
We travel abroad extensively for months at a time. We are in Japan this time for two months. We review frequently and overwhelmingly positively. Bar Mer’s is one of the few negative reviews we have left.
You mention language as a problem. My wife is a linguist and a languages teacher of several European languages. She has basic Japanese. And in and in any case GoogleTranslate made sure that there was no doubt that we were asking for replacement wine because it was off.
The surroundings are convivial and...
Read moreThis lovely bar looks authentically Spanish with a great menu from North Spain ( pinxos) and a good wine list ( although over 50% are French or Italian!). It's been done up by a genuine management. BUT the red wine was off and corked,(served chilled to hide the mediocre quality)- we hesitated to make a fuss.. and the waiter replaced it without a problem. The " free tapas" was a slice of tomato on bread - not" pan con tomate", no taste. My prawns and avocado tapas was a scandal: I have never been served halved prawns ( frozen ones,in Shikoku and Japan who are renowned for fresh seafood..!) so that it looks more in the dish. To the manager: you must have left strict instructions to your staff on how to earn money by saving on products! My husband had the dried meats tapas was fine, but he waited one hour to be served... Perhaps other dishes may be nicer, but be patient with the 2 waiters! It didn't appear to...
Read moreCame in for a glass of wine and some nibbles. The atmosphere in here was great- felt very laid back and relaxed The staff were so lovely and very considerate about my dietaries (gluten free & peanuts) when it came to the tapas. Food was super good. It doesn’t look like the fanciest tapas but the taste was great! Really nice to have some veggies on this trip too… Although it is a Spanish wine bar there’s more than just Spanish wine on the menu if you’re wanting something else. A great way to end the day with a glass of wine, delicious tapas in a...
