Hirase Sake Brewery Tasting Room — Restaurant in Takayama

Amazing sake tasting experience in Takayama. It is across the street from the local history museum. For only 500円 (in February 2025) you can try around 30 different kinds of sake in 30 minutes. We went just before lunch and it was not busy. The owners kindly provide an English guide with information on the sake's production, how dry/sweet they are, a suggested order in which to try them, etc. Please note you should only pour once per bottle, and only fill your cup about halfway. Many of them are quite strong so I would not recommend coming here on an empty stomach! Really nice sake tasting experience. Our tasting guide spoke perfect English so it made it easy to communicate. We have 30 minutes to try the sakes we want, and have a guide to do so (beginners' order suggested, but lots of information are given if we want to do it our own way). The tasting is limited to 30 minutes but it is actually enough if we just want to discover sake and not get drunk.
