If I could give 0 stars, I would. My family and I walked into this restaurant and were instantly taken aback by how badly this place reeks of the smell of old fish sauce. The whole place just smelled musty. We sat down anyway and started to look through a dirty, sticky menu. The pages kept sticking together which definitely wasn’t leaving a good impression either. Then, we saw a sign that said cash only. We were going to use credit card because we ran out of yen, so my dad planned to go to an ATM so we could dine here. After all this, we still decided to give this place a chance. My dad passed out some napkins to us earlier and the owner came up to our table and said “Only take what you use” and started straightening out the 4-5 extremely thin paper napkins back into their holder at our table. How can you scold guests who have done nothing but be kind and accepting? Second, what he did was quite unsanitary and makes you wonder what types of things are done in the kitchen to cut corners. At this point, I looked at my parents and said we weren’t eating there. The whole interaction left a bad taste in our mouths. We ended up eating at the Korean place next door even though we walked half a mile to this place. Super glad we did not give this business our money. 0 stars. Vietnam Chan is much better and around half a mile from this place. We ate there twice and had a clean and normal experience. Don’t give this business your money. They don’t know how to...
Read moreThis place is a racist. DON’T GO here if you’re ENGLISH speaking or anything other than Vietnamese. I went in to get Viet food. The waitress spoke to me in Japanese, in which I replied back in Japanese at first. It didn’t seem like she understood so I tried to speak in Vietnamese to tell her to wait two more minutes before I ordered as I figured it’s easier since I couldn’t understand her nor could she understand me. She didn’t hear me so I thought: maybe she’s Japanese not Viet, so I told her I’ll get a translator app real quick in English.
She immediately proceeded to make fun of me to the TABLE RIGHT NEXT TO ME in Vietnamese with the entire table of dudes laughing at me. Keep in mind, our interaction was no more than 3 sentences so I don’t understand how she was impatient. I spoke up louder in Vietnamese that I can speak in Viet and can understand her. For the record, she asked “Nan desu ka” so I couldn’t understand what she’s asking. She really confidently incorrectly thought she asked me what drink I wanted in Japanese.
The entire experience is humiliating and embarrassing. The table next to me kept staring at us and smacking their lips loudly while the waitress suddenly was polite after. I can only imagine what else could have been said if I didn’t speak up immediately.
The food isn’t good. I’m pretty ashamed this place has a rating above 4. Japanese culture isn’t like this at all. Everywhere I went, people have been mostly patient and respectful.
EDIT: I wish your family well, but accountability would be appreciated. You’re saying the staff was busy? I don’t think that had anything to do with my experience. It wasn’t super busy at all if your waitress has time to mock my Japanese to another table of patrons in Vietnamese. The experience is even worse because I tried 3 different languages to communicate and that a Vietnamese person had the audacity to mock my Japanese while her Japanese was just as bad as mine.
Read moreOk I wanna start by saying that I’ve only ever had pho once before coming to this place but this is by far the greatest thing I’ve eaten. The table side chili sauce had an aroma and kick off what I can assume is lemongrass that paired so so so nicely with the beef pho. The entire set not only comes with pho but also a small rice dish, spring roll side dishes and a small dessert. This place is very well worth it even on a hot summer day. If they bottled up that chili sauce, I would...
