I am an actual local in Kanda, and I have been coming to this place almost every week for some months. Currently, there is no reservations needed, just walk in. The owner seems to frequently update the Google maps, so check here for the schedule and what's new.
There are limited seasonal dishes, but the cricket ramen+aji tama topping is my go-to. The broth has a unique and earthy flavor as it is a cricket broth, and the type of noodles go well with the broth. Tsukudani, variety of bugs preserved in a soy sauce based sauce, is also pretty good. I would recommend hachinoko if you're a first timer.
The Sakura kemushi tea is my recommendation as a drink if pairing with ramen or tsukudani. The kamemushi ginger ale or coke is a good experience and tastes really good, but I feel like it doesn't pair well with the current food on the menu. Probably good to drink it as is at the end of the meal.
Food here is prepared in a visually pleasing way, so it feels like you're not even eating...
Read moreMy husband and I booked a course meal here during our time in Tokyo not knowing much about what to expect. We were absolutely blown away by every aspect of the experience. The dining area itself is gorgeous, the staff is incredibly friendly (and patient with those who don't speak much Japanese) and the meal itself was one of the best I've ever had - certainly an experience that I will remember and talk about for a very long time. The alcohol pairing course was a great value and just as creative and thoughtful as the food itself. I especially appreciated how passionate the staff were about education - making sure that each guest understood the ingredients used, where they came from, how they were harvested/produced and how they represent local ecosystems and food systems. This is a top notch culinary experience and I recommend it highly to anyone who loves food and...
Read moreInsanely talented chef and amazing wife! You could taste and feel how much love was put into this restaurant and the food. The music was adorable as he had Earthbound playing in the background. As for the food, I had to order almost everything on the menu(tried to do more but I got full quickly). I got the cricket ramen, Tsukudani set, silk worm poo tea, water bug cola, stink bug ginger ale, and silk worm poo ice cream. While it may seem scary to try, it was well worth it. I couldn't stop order one after another because everything was fantastic. Some of these flavors reminded me a lot of my grandma's cooking. While eating these dishes, the chef and his wife were showcasing the bugs used alongside how they gather all their ingredients. They put so much time into their food and it speaks for itself. I hope to see you both in the...
