Lawson — Local services in Tokyo

We stayed at the nearby hotel for 8 nights and went to this store every day. There were plenty of good options from foods to drinks, but the customer service and the attitude of the staff/cashiers here are so poor.

On the day of our flight back home, we decided to grab breakfast here again. It was past 8 a.m., the store was very busy. There were 2 staff/cashiers, both women. Idk their nationalities but I’m guessing that they are not locals. I was observing them and I noticed how courteous and pleasant they were to Japanese people, but when it came to us it was a different story. Let me share our experience.

My aunt ordered 2 MEDIUM lattes. After paying, my aunt proceeded to the machine to get our coffees. The machine was showing an error so my aunt asked for help. The staff helped her and pressed the necessary buttons BUT she was clearly showing an attitude. The first coffee came out okay.

For the 2nd cup, my aunt was the one that pressed the buttons, but for some reason the machine dispensed the amount of coffee for a LARGE cup. The cup almost overflowed and my aunt asked for help because something was clearly wrong with the machine again. Instead of being helpful and understanding, the staff/cashier raised her voice at my aunt and lectured her. She was YELLING, saying that the Large coffee is priced differently and she shouldn’t have pressed that. She even threatened that the POLICE CAN COME to apprehend her or something. It was so embarrassing and I bet that if the same thing happened to a Japanese person or a person that isn’t of color, her treatment would be entirely different. Lawson should do better in training...

Over and over the worst service. I won't go in anymore. I'm all for using people of all nationalities but the training and manners are unbelievable. Being stared down by the staff with no smile no manners is...
