I’ve eaten bagels all over Japan, and they’ve all tasted like a round version of white bread to me, lacking the sinewy chewiness and depth of flavor that I crave when having bagels. I was hoping that Bagel Cafe 88 would have something closer to what I remember eating, and I was pleasantly surprised when diving into their Everything bagel, the closest facsimile to a bagel from the US I’ve had in more than a decade in Japan. The caramel latte was very sweet (which I like), but the bagel was way too tough and hard to eat, which stops me from giving the place a full 5 stars. I was pretty disappointed when I picked it up and it wasn’t at all soft or warm. The atmosphere of the place, however, is lovely, and I could totally see myself spend a day doing work here. The staff were also nice, despite being swamped with so many...
