Beetle has such an unique charm in my eyes.
I went in on a busy time and I had to wait for my name to be called out by the staff. The waiting felt rewarded as I was offered a seat at the counter from where I could watch over the kitchen.
When I grabbed the menu I saw they have a craft beer option which upon tasting I discovered it was a genuine tasty apple cider beer.
I had my mind set on trying their thick ham-katsu which is served with a side of horseradish mustard and cabbage to cut down the spicy. It was so delicious! I also tried out the deepfried chicken -huge crunchy juicy bits seasoned with ginger. My eyes were sparkling with joy.
I could comfortably sit at the counter, and I saw lively chatty tables with parties of 4 or 6 close friends. If that is not enough to keep you entertained there is also a tv running Japanese comedy shows or sports highlights.
Staff was very kind to me and understanding despite the language barrier. I am grateful for it!
Paying cash only has a romantic touch to me. Having to search my wallet for the right ammount of coins is both an ending to a nice evening out and a sobering up moment.
Small details that I love about going to an izakaya were reunited under the same roof, making it a great...
Read moreWe came across this place by chance a few days ago when looking for a late night spot to eat while in Harajuku. Inside was crowded with many people, but the atmosphere was very chill and casual so it had a really good energy. We were seated after a short wait at the bar area, the man who took our order too was very friendly and our set meals came quite fast considering how busy it was.
I ordered the karaage set and loved it! The chicken pieces were large with a lovely crisp coating and tender insides, and the miso soup wasn’t too salty either. Definitely give the monthly sake special a try too if you like sake, he presented us with a dry and sweet option (I chose sweet) and it was wonderfully smooth.
To top off our meal we wanted to order skewers, they have quite a large and interesting selection (pig head?) but went with normal chicken thigh skewers. This one took a while to arrive and we asked after it about twice, but when it finally did come it was worth it! The chunks were huge and lightly salted, and the lime-ish chili on the side lent a nice bite to them as well. Overall a wonderful place to get some dinner at a good price with friends if you are...
Read moreOutstanding little izakaya spot. Lots of beer, lots of sake, and very decent food. I recommend the liver “paste” and the cream cheese sake stealer. The deep fried options are also very good. The Hanshin Tigers V. The Orix Buffaloes game was playing on two smaller screens while students and salarymen were enjoying good food and drinks. Would definitely return if I ran out of places to eat at in Tokyo… Hidden gem worth a...
