Nestled in a quiet corner of Daikanyama, this Italian restaurant is a discovery more than worth making. The restaurant's period bistro decor retains both the patina of the past and the spaciousness of the past, allowing both work and customers to be comfortably accommodated. Host Emanon offers individual dishes as well as a lunch menu at 3790 yen. For this price, it's a truly gourmet menu. The first course is a tasty and melting tuna sashimi, wonderfully garnished with berries, a pinch of fresh ginger purée and a finely acidic marinade. A pure delight. The glass of California Cabernet Sauvignon I had, in addition to the menu, is perfect and balanced in aroma. It's subtle and far from the thick, full-bodied Napa Valley.

The risotto that follows makes me, who didn't like this dish, a repentant one. Here too, the balance of cooking and flavors is simply perfect. The grain of the rice is cooked slightly al dente, and the mushroom sauce suggests its aromas rather than imposing its taste.

The pork loin served next does not disappoint and remains in the same vein. The flesh is tender and cooked exactly to the point that separates well-cooked meat from that which remains semi-raw in the center. The meat is evenly cooked throughout its thickness.

Here too, the sauce, berries and spices are finely balanced, giving the dish all its nobility.

For dessert, the chocolate panna cotta couldn't disappoint after such a meal. The texture is voluptuous on the palate. The light lemon meringue that accompanies it marries perfectly with the zest of toasted cereals.

The staff are young, responsive, relaxed and very pleasant.

As for the chef, he's simply a great chef. Michelin Japan probably doesn't know about this restaurant, and so much the better for all those who will still be able to enjoy a gourmet meal for less...

バースデープレートとランチコースを予約して女子4人で伺ったがもう行くことはないだろう。特にまだ経験の浅そうな若い男性スタッフが酷かった。

1.どの席に座ればいいかわからない 入店し予約の名前を告げると機嫌の悪そうな女性スタッフにカウンターで鍵を渡され「記載されている番号のお席までお願いします」と言われた。案内のスタッフがいなかった為自分たちで奥へと向かったものの、席の番号が見当たらずどこが自分たちの席なのかわからず立ち尽くしてしまった。結局ホールスタッフに番号を聞き、席を教えてもらった。着席してからわかったのだが、テーブルの上に置いてあるカードにその番号が記載されていた。一つ一つのテーブルを回って覗き込まないと認識できないほどのサイズだったので、誘導されないことに違和感を覚えた。

2.説明がなく放置、謎のQRコード 席についても挨拶も説明もなく、ただ水が注がれ、放置。予約したコースのメニュー、セットのドリンクのメニュー、セルフオーダー用のQRコードが置いてあったため、オーダーしないとコースが始まらないのかと思い、セットのドリンクをセルフでオーダーした。その数分後、若い男性スタッフがドリンクを聞きにきたため先ほどセルフでオーダーした旨を伝えると「オーダーは僕に…」と。だから何?どうしたらいいの?と意味不明だった。「ではドリンクはこちらで確認しますね、次からはお申し付けください」「お手数ですがもう一度お伺いしてもよろしいでしょうか」などもっと違う言い方があると思うが、彼はそれを呟いてその場に立っているので改めてドリンクを伝えた。そもそもコースの場合はスタッフに直接オーダーしなければならないならQRコードを外しておくか、席についてからすぐにそれを説明するのが筋だろう。

3.リゾットかパスタか ドリンクの一件の後、同じスタッフがリゾットがパスタか選べると言うので、全員が順番にリゾット希望であることを伝えた。すると「少々お待ちください」と言い残し違うスタッフに何かを確認しに行き、すぐに帰ってきて「1テーブル一種類でお願いします」と言う。だから全員リゾットと言ったが?と思いつつ、全員リゾットで大丈夫です。と伝えた。マニュアル通りの回答でないと理解できないのか分からないが、伝わらないことにモヤモヤした。

4.虫が発生 窓際のボックス席だったが、どこからともなくコバエのような虫が次から次へと現れる。4人で楽しく話していても視界の端で飛んでいるのが気になるのでその度におしぼりで潰していた。5,6匹目を潰したところで、新しいおしぼりをもらおうということになり、同じ男性スタッフに「おしぼりで虫を潰してしまったので捨てて欲しい」と伝えるが、ピンときていない様子だったので「これを捨てて新しいおしぼりをください」と言い直した。

5.フォークとお皿 プレートとケーキが登場し、友人にお花や誕生日プレゼントを渡してひとしきり写真を撮った後でも、デザート用のシルバーとお皿が来ず。わざわざそれを伝えなければならず、最後の最後までイライラした。

You might be reluctant to anticipate good food at this very hipster looking hotel themed cafe, but you will be pleasantly surprised in regards to the quality of food.

Dinner here is also served as a course style me and although not all that casual, it’s a very nice venue for both dates and get togethers with close friends.
