Probably my first 1-star review.
I don't fuss about service most of the time unless I feel really unwelcomed. Breakfast set was so-so, but if you want to experience bad service in Japan, you might want to put this place in your list.
The women staff greeted me at the door, but when I took a window seat on the 2nd floor, the male staff came with a really black face to tell me they have a reservation there. When he came up a second time to take my order, his face was equally unhappy and reluctantly told me about the WiFi when I asked. I still thank him every time he delivers my coffee/meal, but he doesn't seem to care about it. What a way to kick start a morning for your customer.
As the Japanese customers who made a reservation by the window came, they were immediately served water as a start. 15 mins later (1 hour after i arrived), I requested for my own water.
The only reason the place is getting 1-star from me is because they allow dogs...
Read moreTokyo Kenkyo is so like the coffee it serves; best enjoyed at leisure.
With the warm surroundings reflecting the warmer service, you might consider a cold drink. Do. The "nektar" - a house special - is especially welcome to those of us who enjoy our soft drinks soft on the palate. Low on sugar; high on subtley; it is hard to pass up (although I could be persuaded if the price were even a little higher).
The Armillaria Ostoyae, a mushroom, is the world's largest living organism, estimated by scientists as to cover 3.7 square miles (2,400 acres; 9.6 km2). If - in a better world - mushrooms were instead measured by flavour, then Tokyo Kenkyo's eringii dish would be the outstanding specimen. Cooked in broth, it is soft, crunchy and delicious. They say a Armillaria spore can remain viable in tree stumps for 50 years; memories of the Kenkyo Eringi will stay with me for longer.

Read moreNice cafe. I tried their potato & fried vegetables sandwich (with mashed potatoes, lettuce, eggplant, burdock root, shimeji mushrooms, lotus root, zucchini, broccoli and a side of French fries) and an açai smoothie for ¥2,080 and they were both delicious. You have some vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. They are dog friendly (and even have a dog menu). The place has a chill, stylish atmosphere. You have to climb some stairs to get to the cafe, and then you have a second flight of stairs if you want to go to their second floor or terrace (and also stairs down if you want to go to the toilet). Located in a quiet area, a 10-minute walk to Naka-Meguro. Friendly staff. English menu available. You can pay by cash and card, but not by other cashless options...
