I went in a group of 10 people, as we were celebrating a farewell for two of us. We had sirloins, tenderloins and eel katsu. No complaints at all about the food, it was great for the price. One of the best I've ever had.
However, the service was the worst service I've ever seen in my life. We were being served by a middle aged man with spectacles. He was rude to us from the beginning. Since the tables can only seat 4 people, we asked if we could join 3 tables. The restaurant was empty, and there was nobody but us. He sternly said "no", and continuously denied us with zero explanation. Even though we clarified that we are ready to pay separate bills for each table (if that was their concern), he did not budge.
After this, we asked for water as some people are not comfortable with tea and were promptly denied again. There was no humility or remorse in his tone, he made us feel as if we were asking for something that was impossible. Is it really that hard to fill a couple glasses with tap water and give it to the customers? Even if it was only tea, there was not enough tea to go around for all of us.
When the orders started coming in, he misplaced the orders as he forgot which table had ordered what. When we corrected him, and told him that this is not what we ordered, he once again pushed back and insisted that he was correct. He eventually went back to the kitchen and checked the tickets, only to realize that he was indeed wrong. Only after this did he come back to apologize and soften his behaviour.
The dinner was supposed to be a relaxed and fun event, but he ruined it by making us all feel pressure and disdain due to his actions. Having lived in Japan for 8 years, I don't think we acted in an unruly or loud way. I genuinely believe that the waiter hates foreigners. I have never seen such poor service ever. Even if you have a certain political stance, leave it at the door before you...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing experience at Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu in Machida! From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming and courteous. The service was efficient, friendly, and attentive—everything you’d hope for in an authentic Japanese dining experience.
The gyukatsu was phenomenal—perfectly crispy on the outside and tender, juicy beef inside. Being able to cook it to our own liking on the hot stone was such a fun and unique touch. The set meals were well-balanced and beautifully presented, and the rice, soup, and sauces were full of flavor.
The restaurant was clean, calm, and had a cozy, inviting atmosphere.
Highly recommend for anyone who loves quality Japanese food and great service. I’ll definitely be coming back on my next visit to Machida!
Definitely a Hidden gem...
