No-nonsense delicious tonkotsu ramen that is rich, flavourful and leaves you craving for more. The service gets 5 stars because the food arrives hot and fast. Few things provide immediate and embracing comfort as a Furyu plate of Tonkotsu Ramen on a biting winter day.
Proudly announce KAEDAMA! when you need a Noodle refill, of which you get two free ones. Incredible value because the broth will leave you wanting more fodder to slurp.
Don't get confused when they ask you something in Japanese after you hand them your order stub. They're just asking what doneness you'd like your noodles. Confidently reply with "Futsu onegaishimasu!"
I ordered the Black Garlic Oil special limited menu item which was left me desiring more at the end of the meal. It cost me 1290 yen, which is far cheaper than a subpar bowl of Ippudo's Tonkotsu in my home country.
The atmosphere gets 3 stars because most outlets are cramped for max capacity and you may rub shoulders and find people waiting behind you for your spot. This is Tokyo after all. Oh, and avoid this place during the lunch and dinner peaks, there are long queues!
I recommend Brunch or an Earlier Dinner instead. Aim for a 11am meal and a 5pm one for more manageable crowds. Unless you don't mind long lines. Weekends are a frenzy in Tokyo, weekdays are always recommended for most activities...
Read moreMy husband and I came to Japan for our honeymoon. We were excited to try one of the more popular street foods, and chose a place that looked like it had local customers. As we learned, this was one of many locations but the fact that it's a chain means you'll be able to find one closeby if you get hungry in Tokyo.
This was our first time eating ramen in Japan, and it was exactly what we hoped for. The broth is rich and full of flavor, and being able to choose the texture of our noodles made the experience even better. We also appreciated that you could get a complimentary extra serving of noodles! It stood out as one of our favorites, so we hope to come back!
Language barriers can be hard, but for us their menu offered English as well as instructions. It was a warm and friendly atmosphere and they seem to get just about everyone in their shops, so we were still able to order without any trouble. (Thank you for your patience with our poor Japanese!)
For comparison, we personally thought it was just as good as Tsuta, the Michelin Star restaurant we ate later on the trip. Both have their own merits, with Hakata Furyu locations having heavier broths that fill you up more as well as being more...
Read moreHakata Furyu Akihabara 2nd might look like a typical ramen shop from the outside, but there's something truly special about this place. Like many ramen spots, you start by selecting your meal from a vending machine. What makes it even better is that the machine offers English options and plenty of recommendations, making it super easy to navigate.
The staff were incredibly attentive, and as soon as we arrived, they quickly prepared a table for us. Our food arrived very quickly as well. The highlight of this experience is that you can order up to two free noodle refills! You can even choose the firmness of the noodles using small signs on display, which is such a unique touch.
The flavor was absolutely fantastic—rich, intense, and deeply satisfying. I felt so comfortable and taken care of throughout the meal. The staff were friendly and attentive, and I would definitely come back again. Highly...
