Looking for a pancake place that was close to the game shops and arcades and The Flying Scotsman came up. We were a bit worried when we got there and there was a huge line close by but it turns out it was for something else.
This is located on the third floor and very easy to find from the electric town North Exit. We were one of the first customers (opened at 10am on Saturday) and they do have limits to seating hours. I think that’s very reasonable and fair because most places in Japan aren’t huge sprawling mega buildings like in the US.
We ordered the genovese pasta, the teriyaki sandwich as well as pancakes (their specialty). These pancakes are THICC and we expected there to be a little wait (the waitress who was very helpful said 30 min, but they were out in 20). I read from other reviews from different places that since they take time, order something else to eat while you’re waiting. The pasta and sandwich were tasty.
So onto the pancakes. We wanted to try a few and admittedly this was way too much food. We tried 4 pancakes for 4 people. This was double and maybe even quadruple what we actually could eat. We tried the tiramisu, matcha green tea, chocolate and plain. If you’re expecting soufflé pancakes these are not, they are heavier. They were tasty and I would rate the matcha as the tastiest. It had a delicious red bean cream and the matcha ice cream was good too.
Atmosphere was cool. There were some guys at the other table who set up a. Full on system to play street fighter.
I think its a great option for both dessert...
Read moreI was flat-out THRILLED by the pancakes that I got. They were covered in a complex and beautifully laid out design of thick and frothy whipped cream, ice cream, jelly, peaches, and embellished with chocolate, a slice of lemon, and a sprig of some sort of mint. The pancakes themselves seems like they were actually more like cake than pancakes. There was a slightly salty deliciousness to them, perhaps it was the melted butter. At this price, I don't think there's any place where you could get such a delicious cake this size with this amount of whipped cream and toppings. I recommend it for two women or one man, and don't plan on eating afterwards. I definitely think it's the thing with the best value on the menu because I saw the Taiwan style Hawaiian ice, and although they're big and they look tasty, I don't think they compare to these pancakes. I've lived in Japan a long time and I'm not often floored by the desserts -- this one blew my mind. On top of that, the location is really nice. It's close to the station on the third floor, it has nice Windows looking out over a plaza, there's electricity under the seats so you can do your work here, there's an air cleansing machine and gentle music, and the service was excellent. The waitress even drew a cute little cat and wrote "Please have a good stay!" on the...
Read moreThis cafe has very accurate "what you see is what you get" menu pictures. I ordered the "Rare Cheese Pancake" and it looks exactly as advertised. It is also sweeter than most Japanese dessert places so be advised if you like the more traditional subtle sweets, you might not like this place. The pancake style here is less souffle' and more of an actual cake. Less eggy, more dense but still fluffy-ish. Very similar to cornbread in texture and bite. Delicious either way. I ordered a matcha latte as my drink and that thing was loaded with matcha. Almost coughed up a storm my first sip, great for those that really love matcha but I don't think I'd get that again.
Overall yes, I'd recommend this place. It feels like it's some hidden secret members only cafe' because of its location. Very cosy feeling inside too. Price is reasonable for the location and quality of food, my only gripe was that the lone server at the time of my visit was a bit...stoic? She wasn't mean or rude (nor friendly), she just seemed like she didn't want to be there (maybe just a bad day). Almost made me feel like I came at a bad time. But I'd come back again, many other things...
