This is my favorite Tokyo/Edo style restaurant. Basically these were a fast food in Edo. But please note that these are no longer cheap stuff. Also you need to sit on the floor, no chair. This restaurant serves fresh water fishes, loaches, eels, and in winter catfishes that were prior cooked to remove nasty things then you cook in a shallow pan to the level you like . They offer also excellent appetizers and to conclude barbecued eel or loach rice bowl, etc. To be honest most Japanse people at at my age did not love this kind of fishes due to mud tastes. But we did not have affordable protein stuff. So myself and spouse can understand that this is the art of cooking.
Ordering instructions, based on my typical menu: start with appetizers like crispy fried loaches, like chips, and a bowl of tuna with miso paste (Nuta); Beer is fine at this step Order BBQ eel or loach on rice bowl as these take tens of minutes to arrive, earlier the better; I shift to Sake Order loach pot, there are 2 types, w/ or w/o bones, I have both styles. Available toppings are leeches, tofu and more. These will be served shortly
Their representatives speak English well. Enjoy!

The staff are attentive, friendly and we're very patient with us despite our lacking knowledge of Japanese.

The food was absolutely incredible. The unagi in particular was the perfect balance of fatty, rich, sweet and umami and was paired with your usual set suspects of soup, salad and rice. The boneless loach nabe hot pot was also excellent, again, served as a set and was also delicious.

Read moreWe actually stumbled upon this restaurant by accident. We were looking on how we would walk back to our hotel right outside the restaurant right as they were opening. A group of locals asked if we were in line and formed a line behind us. That line prompted us to go in and try. It is a unagi restaurant. We had their nori ochazuke, oyakodon and unagi don. Delicious! Cozy - happy we were able to remove our shoes. The food was very comforting and the service was...
