We stayed at Richmond Hotel Premier Asakusa in May 2024 and enjoyed our stay.
The room (Standard Double) was slightly above average sized for a Tōkyō hotel, but we were impressed by lots of thoughtful touches that made it much more usable, e.g. shelves and ledges along the walls where you could place things, outlets with storage nook above the bed on each side, etc. The air conditioning was effective and quiet.
Housekeeping was great when full housekeeping was selected; we tried “Eco” one day and they only replaced the towels and emptied the bins. We would have selected “Eco” more again if they had also made the bed (no need to change linens).
The available amenities in the lobby were excellent and was regularly stocked with Japan-made products. We really appreciated the luggage scale in the lobby.
Breakfast was good with a selection of both western and Japanese options. It was never too busy during our weekday stay. It would be nice if there was a bit more variation from day to day as choices were mostly the same each day. Throughout the day, you can get drinks in the lounge as well, which is much appreciated.
The staff were all helpful and polite. We really appreciated being able to send our luggage via Ta Q Bin ahead of our stay, and were delighted to find our luggage already in our room upon check in.
The location is great with lots of shopping and dining in the vicinity. Ginza Line offers easy access to Akihabara, Ginza, Ueno, Shinjuku, and Shibuya areas without needing to change trains. Lastly, Keisei Skyaccess provides very easy transport to and from Narita from Akihabara Station without any transfers. I will note that the hotel is a 10 minute walk or so from Akihabara and Tawaramachi Stations, but if you don’t have mobility issues or a large amount of baggage, it’s...
Read moreThis hotel is centrally located, close to all amenities and attractions, overlooking the famous Sensō-ji temple. We had premium double bed room. The rooms are much larger compared to traditional Japanese hotels, and they are comfortable and exceptionally clean. The room has a very modern layout with the wash basins outside the toilets. There is a separate toilet and bath which is very good option especially when all needs to get ready in the morning. The beds are super comfy, and each room includes a fridge and TV. The hotel also provides a comprehensive array of toiletries, including bath towels, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and a hairdryer. If you have forgotten any of your toiletries you can pick it up from the common area in reception which include toothbrushes and paste, combs, razors, shaving cream, shaving lotion, mouth wash personal towels, etc. There was also a phone charging kit in the room with multiple types of connecters (Apple, USB C etc). Drinking water and ice dispensers are also in each floor. The free Internet was very stable and fast. There are plenty of room for opening large suitcases which in many hotels in Japan I found very difficult to manage. There are so many restaurants nearby. May shopping centers are also nearby. The hotel is actually located above a shopping center. The Don Quijote Asakusa which is open 24 hrs from where you can buy a large variety of souvenirs or any last minute shopping, is directly opposite.
The views from the hotel are fantastic. Watching the Sensō-ji temple and the lighted up Tokyo tower at night from the higher floors is really a good experience.
The customer service is great too. They booked taxis to us to the airport and the taxi charges are fixed and very reasonable. Highly...
Read moreJapan is a different cup of tea altogether as we discovered soon after landing in Haneda Airport, Tokyo. Mammoth language barriers and inflexibility are cultural traits that does not help any tourist location and especially the hospitality industry. Given India's stratospheric hospitality standards, we were perhaps not ready for the significant change we had in store for us in Japan. Richmond's location is just wow! But everything else is mediocre. Our check-in process went on and on and had to be repeated due to staff issues at Richmond. There is no culture of assisting a group of clients with multiple pieces of luggage and no trolleys are available either. Everything is mechanical in Japan so if one is late for breakfast, the staff doesn't hesitate in asking the guest to windup and leave! Breakfast spread was limited and mostly catered to the Japanese pallete. Japan as a country has not yet tuned in to the fact that the country is visited by a large number of people from abroad and hence, there must be a degree of catering to international tastes too. In spite of a headsup, we were not given a room fit for a mobility challeneged person and only on reminders, we were given one. Two small water bottles are given per room which is drastically inadequate. The only restaurant in the hotel refuses to serve even a cup of coffee to a guest if the time for closure is near. Absolutely, minimal hospitality! And no element of being human. Their approach is robotic and even on a holiday, flexibility is simply not there. Such an experience demonstrates the huge difference in hospitality standards in...
