Seiyu Asakusa Rox — Local services in Tokyo

This is a well stocked supermarket at the basement of the lower floor of the ROX department store complex above it. People familiar with Walmart in other countries will recognize many of the brands and logos. For "western" tourists, there are a number of familiar brands or at least recognizable products. Produce, lunch boxes, etc. are relatively inexpensive compared to other local supermarkets. If you're a tourist staying around Asakusa or Kitchentown (Kappabashi), you'll appreciate getting supplies here vs. the convenience stores, etc. Of course, this is Tokyo, so the staff are friendly...

Don't go unless you absolutely have to. Locals don't use it regularly. Beware of overtly positive reviews here, written by Walmart (disgusting!). Seiyu is owned by Walmart and determined to put good Japanese grocers out of business. Staff are warm and friendly, but they are treated like soulless slaves and paid poorly by the business that makes billions. You can find cheaper stuff elsewhere (Japan is good like that) and Walmart usually stocks crappy products to keep the prices appearing low, but they really only reflect the quality. I got lost using google maps, good thing there’s a post (have to use google translate) stating that I have to go around to access the escalator down the establishment. It’s an underground 24 hrs grocery store and it’s better to buy meiji chocolates and other condiments like dashi etc here than in Don Quijote which is ridiculously overpriced. For 8,000 yen, i purchased a lot of chocolates and condiments to bring back home. It’s nice also to experience shopping with the locals. There’s a self checkout counter too and has english options. Definitely recommended...
