When you're in Japan, you've gotta have sushi and while it was difficult to find Halal ones years back, you certainly have more options now. Sushi Ken in Asakusa is one of them and even though the price is a wee bit high (as sushis generally are, even to Japanese!), I'm willing to vouch for the taste and quality! The food is thaat good. We had one sashimi set. I'm usually not a fan of raw food but of the ones served on our plate, I quite enjoyed at least half of them. They had three types of tuna, and one of them was easy to eat, contrary to my initial thought. But what I liked most was the fish roe, they're bigger than the ones i've tried in Malaysia and they actually popped in my mouth and left a pretty good aftertaste. Wouldn't recommend the tempura and steak set though, the beef was just mediocre and the tempura was a lil bland. If you like Chawan Mushi (the tofu based savory dessert in the small bowl), then you haveee to try the one they have here. It's so good, I would have ordered more if my stomach capacity would allow it.

Though there were many good choices, the Unagi (eel) would have to take the main prize! It was cooked to perfection. Whatever substitutes they used in place of mirin and sake (what Japanese always use) worked! Even converted mom into a fan! Get this, my mom was so adamant on not trying unagi but after the first bite, she fell in love! guess who ordered an extra helping? 😂 the price though, could make you think twice, the ala carte portion was super small and costs about ¥1700 (about rm70)! Yes, you can pengsan now. With all that said, I'd definitely recommend you to put this in your high priority list if you're going for the halal authentic japanese food.

P/s: there's some space allocated for prayer good for one person at a time. There's also one cubicle in the washroom for ablution (wudu') that you can use, just ask the staff to open it up for you. (Please keep the place clean and wipe after use. They're graciously providing for us so let's do our part to maintain the...

After performing our prayers at Asakusa Mosque, we continued our evening with a leisurely walk in search of dinner. Along the way, we made a brief stop at the iconic Sensoji Temple, soaking in the historic atmosphere and enjoying the scenic night view of one of Tokyo’s most famous landmarks.

Our main destination for the night, however, was a halal sushi restaurant we had heard much about—Asakusa Sushi Ken. Tucked away among the bustling streets of Asakusa, this restaurant is known for serving authentic halal-certified sushi, making it a rare gem for Muslim travelers seeking Japanese cuisine without compromise. We were seated on the upper floor, where the ambiance was calm and inviting, perfect for winding down after a long day.

The sushi was exceptionally fresh and flavourful, offering a delightful variety of textures and tastes. From classic tuna and salmon nigiri to more unique rolls, each piece was carefully prepared and beautifully presented. Despite the premium quality, we were pleasantly surprised by the reasonable pricing, which made the experience all the more enjoyable.

Dining at Asakusa Sushi Ken gave us the opportunity to indulge in authentic Japanese flavours with peace of mind, knowing that everything served adhered to halal standards. It’s definitely a place we would recommend to fellow travellers, especially those exploring Asakusa in the evening after visiting the mosque or the temple. A perfect way to end the night—spiritually fulfilled, culturally enriched, and...

Asakusa Sushi Ken: The Best Halal Sushi in Town

During my recent visit to Tokyo, I had the pleasure of dining at Asakusa Sushi Ken, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. Known for serving some of the best halal sushi in town, this establishment exceeded my expectations in every way.

From the moment I entered, I was greeted warmly by the staff, who were not only friendly but also fluent in English—an invaluable convenience for international visitors. The ambiance was cozy yet vibrant, creating the perfect setting for an authentic Japanese dining experience.

One of the highlights of my visit was watching the chefs in action. Their skill and precision were mesmerizing as they crafted fresh sushi right before my eyes. The ingredients were of the highest quality, and the attention to detail in each dish was remarkable. Every bite was a testament to their dedication to excellence.

Asakusa Sushi Ken is a shining example of how halal dining can still maintain authenticity without compromising on flavor. Whether you’re a seasoned sushi lover or trying it for the first time, this restaurant is an excellent choice. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Tokyo—Muslim travelers or otherwise.

If you’re seeking a top-notch halal dining experience with exceptional service, Asakusa Sushi Ken is the place to go. A...
