We enjoyed the autumn special course menu at Karin. The focus was on foods of Hokkaido, and having been in Otaru and Sapporo several days ago, we were interested in learning more about the foods. The chef did an excellent job of creating a range of dishes that were interesting, delicious, and a great way to experience a variety of foods from Hokkaido. Dinner began with two sets of appetizers - one cold and the other hot. The specific foods included were mushrooms, pork, shrimp, fish and sauces or garnishes with each. First course was a shangtang soup with king crab meat, mushroom stuffed with birdâs nest, and crab roe. Next we enjoyed Cantonese roasted duck with a plum sauce and a Peking duck crepe wrap. This was followed by matsuri Ise lobster with yogurt and potato strings. Then steamed Ezo abalone with a very tasty kombucha seaweed and green onion sauce came alongside steamed Kinki rock fish with Matsutake mushroom and fish sauce. The final savory course was an A5 Furano wagyu beef fillet over black garlic fried rice with Hokkaido Nanatsuboshi - amazing!
