We came across this place back in February, we almost missed it when we walked by, but luckily we didn't give up and after two or three times walking by we finally found it! It looks very unassuming from the outside. We walked in and had one of the best experiences ! The chef was very friendly and welcoming. We both got the set he recommended and we werent disappointed! Everything was made fresh right in front of us and super delicious! and since we were the only customers at that time we got a chance to chat with him as well. (Our Japanese is less than basic but the chef speaks English).

Now fast forward to our most recent trip in Aug/Sep - we made it a priority to come back and have more sushi at Kiku! We did pick a day with a dance festival happening on the street the restaurant is at, but we didn't let that stop us! We made our way and had another wonderful dinner! This time the chef's mom was there too. I wish we spoke Japanese so we could talk to her... Maybe next time! If you are in Koenji go and check out Kiku. You won't be...

Bumped into this tiny restaurant in Kōenji and had a great time there. The mother and son service was impeccable and immediately made us feel welcome. The other guests were kind enough to move over to open seats to allow my wife and I to sit down together, and conversation with them soon followed. The omakase for lunch was a 12 pc. assorted sushi sampler prepared on the spot by the chef, everything was very fresh and tasty. But beyond the food served (including a clear misoshiru with fish bones for flavour), it was the environment here that was special. The chef, who speaks English btw, and his mother have turned this into a very cozy establishment where you can sit down and enjoy your food in a relaxed environment where it's easy to find new friends. On top of this, their prices are quite reasonable....

We had the pleasure of experiencing the finest sushi during our visit to Japan at this charming, family-owned establishment. The hospitality we received was unparalleled, truly a heartwarming example of kindness and generosity. Each sushi piece was a delightful burst of freshness and exquisite taste, a testament to their commitment to quality.

What made our experience genuinely memorable, however, was the warm and engaging conversation we had with the owner. His genuine care and assistance, especially in helping us retrieve our tolled bikes, went above and beyond. As tourists in Japan, we couldn't have asked for a better experience or a more gracious host. This place is more than just a sushi restaurant; it's a shining example of the wonderful...

An absolutely amazing dining experience at Kiku Sushi. A small counter sushi restaurant open for over 50 years, the service (mother and son) is exceptional and the food even better. High quality, well prepared, fresh and delicious as you would imagine/hope for when visiting this beautiful city. This restaurant made our stay in Tokyo and we would highly recommend anyone wanting a traditional Tokyo dining experience to visit here you absolutely will not be disappointed. Very affordable and all effort was made to accomodate our lack of Japanese and speak with us in English. Please note the photos do not do it justice, except for the beautiful photo of chef and mother :) thank you for the fantastic hospitality.
