Ways TOKYO Shinjukuten Hair Salon — Local services in Tokyo

While visiting Japan, I knew I wanted to get a trim and color my hair. Coming from the States, everything is usually so expensive, so I was excited to try a salon in Tokyo. Booking an appointment was super easy although I couldn’t book through the website, the hairstylist quickly responded and helped me schedule via Instagram Messenger, which was super convenient!

The location was perfect since we were staying in Shinjuku, and the salon itself was clean, sleek, and modern. When we walked in, all the staff greeted us warmly and explained everything clearly. Even with limited English, the hairstylist was kind and gave thoughtful recommendations during the consultation.

The hair wash felt great, and the final color looked so natural exactly what I was hoping for. I could really see the difference as they blow-dried my hair it looked healthier and shinier. I also appreciated that other staff helped during the process, which made everything faster and more efficient.

I would definitely come back the next time...

I got my haircut at another salon, and they ruined it. Then I saw good reviews about this salon and how they served foreign customers, so I just walked in. They did a good job trimming the tail of my hair (with a layered cut) to make my hairstyle look better.

BUT, with the trim and one hair treatment, the bill came out to a whopping 90 USD! I've had my haircut around the world (New York, Milan, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore), and surprisingly, this is the most expensive haircut (trimming) ever! I didn’t know they charged a stylist nomination fee (because I just walked in and asked if they had any available stylists)+ a foreigner fee (a whopping 30%).

With all the good reviews, I think I got scammed. Or maybe the reviews aren't truthful?

Overall, is the haircut good? Yes, average. Is it worth the price?...

BEST HAIR EXPERIENCE EVER! We were looked after by Ayane and she is the most talented and kind hairdresser I have ever had. My friend and I went for cut and colour (I asked for a specific shade of light pink) my friend had a cut. Ayane knew exactly what we wanted and we are leaving so so happy. We are English and speak no Japanese and Ayane was patient and understanding and Google translated with us the whole way. The whole team are so sweet and understanding, but above all incredibly talented. If you are in Tokyo you MUST get your hair done at Ways...
