Normally wouldn't have gone here if hadn't been for a variety show (TBS ジョブチューン) we watched that saw Kura Sushi promoted in a very positive light as it accomplished a show-first by passing on all 10 of their dishes.
While we actually quite like kaitenzushi (sushi train), we hadn't been for a while. Kura is pretty cool in how everything is automated with a fun and casual atmosphere, but you do quickly find out that it's not very clean or well-maintained. Our booth wasn't wiped down properly and both soya sauce dispensers leaked a lot.
It is however tourist-friendly and very popular with generally a younger crowd or big families as it's priced very low. This chain located on the 7th floor close to the heart of Shibuya Crossing was super busy when we came so highly advise to book online ahead of time to cut down your waiting time.
We were unfortunately super disappointed with the food and our overall experience. For the price, it doesn't seem like good value for money as the portions were very small and quality not that great for Japan's standard. Ironically, we enjoyed the dessert the most, not the sushi.
There're other sushi train chains in Tokyo that offer a similar or better experience that provide a cheaper price point but in my opinion better value for money as the quality is higher (e.g., Sushiro) or a higher end sushi train where you get the fun experience but also much better quality, making it a more memorable experience (e.g.,...
Read moreFood is great and cheap, would also come back for that. Service is also great, you order sushi on your tablet (English menu available) and it arrives literally 30 seconds later. In addition from the other belt you can just take your sushi which is such a great combi. Ordering sushi with tablet + taking sushi which comes by. We loved it.
The atmosphere is rather loud and if you go with it you can have fun, but don't expect to have dinner or lunch in calmness. This will not be the case.
Big downer is the waiting time. We arrived there at 5:30PM and already had to wait for 90 minutes. I think if you want to have less waiting time you should definitely arrive before 4PM. As far as I have seen you can also get your number at the counter, and then just come back shortly before the planned time. They will block the time for you.
I also noticed that you can make a reservation via App but you have to get the APK version as it is only available for Japanese.
Overall, the waiting time disregarded I would always love to come back, but since waiting is so long, I recommend going for lunch here to avoid longer wait times...
Read moreWe recently visited Kura Sushi, and it was an absolutely delightful experience! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and modern, with a clean and sleek design. The concept of the conveyor belt sushi was not only fun but also incredibly efficient.
The variety of sushi was impressive, with fresh and high-quality ingredients evident in every bite. Each plate was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked. I loved the unique system where you can order specialty items through the touchscreen, and they arrive directly at your table via the express belt.
The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring that our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable. The touch of gamification with the plates being counted for potential prizes added an extra layer of excitement to the meal.
Overall, Kura Sushi provides not just a meal, but an experience that is both innovative and delicious. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and enjoyable...
