L'HABITUDE — Restaurant in Tokyo

Better not make any mistakes here, otherwise the staff and even the customers next to you will laugh at you. The main dish was also really salty, felt like they had killed the salt seller. And just like some earlier reviews said, if you don’t speak Japanese, don’t come — because at least if you can argue back in Japanese, you can defend yourself a little, but if you can’t, you’ll be completely bullied. Also like some previous guests mentioned in their reviews, for various reasons — even something like the volume of your voice — the staff will rudely call you out.

When someone like the manager came to explain, their excuse was that the waitress felt “uneasy,” so she mocked the customers. Only after a long argument did they finally admit the waitress was at fault.

I thought it would be nice to take a picture of the cake together with the dishes inside the restaurant, so I took it out first for a photo. Later I even asked the staff if it was okay to eat it, and when they said no, I put it away. If the nearby customers had an issue with us taking out the cake at that moment, why couldn’t they just tell us directly? Why act sarcastic on the side? Just because we asked late, we had to endure this kind of treatment? Even if I understand it’s because we didn’t ask in advance, it’s still unacceptable.

As for what the manager said — that the staff felt uneasy about us taking out the cake and was too shy to ask us directly — all I can say is, too shy to ask but bold enough to mock? So this is what “Japanese people do”? Please don’t disgrace Japanese people like this. (I say this because the manager literally said this is “the Japanese way of doing things.”)

Finally, just to avoid any misunderstanding, let me emphasize once again: our opinion has always been that yes, we should have asked the staff in advance if we could take out the cake. But that is absolutely not a valid reason to be treated...

C’était ma première visite chez L’Habitude et j’ai été absolument conquise par la cuisine. Les plats étaient délicieux, généreux, bien présentés et on peut dire que la cuisine de ce restaurant est excellente. J’ai particulièrement apprécié le fait qu’un pain différent accompagne chaque plat lorsque vous choisissez le menu avec entrée, plat, dessert. Le rapport qualité-prix est excellent, et c’est clairement un restaurant français qui a du potentiel sur le plan culinaire.

Malheureusement, je n’ai pas pu mettre 5 étoiles à cause de l’accueil, qui a clairement terni l’expérience. Le service est froid et peu accueillant. C’est la première fois en plusieurs années au Japon que je me sens aussi mal accueillie dans un restaurant. La serveuse n’a pas souri une seule fois et même si elle est restée polie, elle semblait peu heureuse d’être là. L’ambiance à l’arrivée était froide, ce qui est dommage pour un premier contact. Le pire a été lorsqu’on nous a demandé de faire moins de bruit parce que nous étions en train de rire. L'une de mes amies passait par un moment difficile et ce repas était censé lui changer les idées. Cette remarque du staff, totalement déplacée, a coupé court à notre conversation.

Aussi, quelques fautes de français sur le menu donnent une impression de négligence qui ne reflète pas la qualité des assiettes. Un petit effort sur la présentation du lieu et la relecture des textes serait donc le bienvenu.

C’est vraiment dommage de proposer une cuisine aussi réussie pour que l’expérience soit ruinée par un comportement aussi peu agréable de ceux travaillant sur place. À cause de cela, je ne peux pas vraiment recommander ce restaurant malgré la qualité des plats, car je me suis sentie mal à l'aise à cause du staff. Ils risquent de perdre de nombreux nouveaux clients si l’accueil ne...

Maybe my favorite French restaurant in Kagurazaka.

Been here a number of times for lunch, tried something different almost every time, and have never left disappointed. They have multiple different courses, tons of options among those courses, and everything is delicious. It’s also one of the most reasonably priced French restaurants in the area given the quality/options/volume. The atmosphere is of course great as well.
