So I have been to Las Dos Caras three times now and every time it has been a pleasure. The wait staff are very friendly and don’t mind practicing their English with you, the food is very good and reasonably priced depending on what you order. When I go, I go with a group and per person it usually comes to about 5000-6000¥—but we do love to eat and drink.
The atmosphere is quite sexy. It’s a great place for a date or a party. I’m sure kids would enjoy it too but it does seem more like a place for adults. Their upper floor is non-smoking (which you can make reservations for on Gurunavi if you don’t wanna call) and they have a bar area which does allow smoking. They also have limited outdoor seating.
They have an entire section of tapas for 500¥ but they also have things like tacos, enchiladas, and fajitas too which are a little bit more spendy but just as delicious! Their food ranges from Spanish to Mexican but all is equally good. (And be aware that spicy isn’t that spicy.)
When you order the fresh guacamole or salsa they make it in front of you after having you pick the avocado and making sure things like onions or tomatoes are okay with you. (It’s like personalized food which is considerate incase someone in the group can’t stand onions.)
But let’s get to the most important part, the cocktails. They have a great cocktail selection. I am a personal fan of their Gin and Tonic which has juniper berry in it. Very refreshing and not too sweet. I also appreciate that they again have a 500¥ section for select cocktails which are all quite good, I believe the “Paroma” is in that section and it’s sweeter but still refreshing.
The best part is they have margaritas. BLENDED margaritas which aren’t particularly easy to find in Japan. They have classic lime and strawberry but they also have a jalapeño one (which my friend enjoys, it’s not too spicy) and a pomegranate one which is quite sweet but I believe it’s made with real pomegranate juice. The margaritas can also be ordered by the glass or by the pitcher! There are 4 difference sizes that they can be ordered by so if you go with a group, it’s a good way to drink.
So yeah, 10/10 will go anytime. Yummy food, good drinks, attentive wait staff.
(In the pictures attached you can see the fresh guacamole and salsa. Also that’s one of the glasses they give you if you order a pitcher of margarita. The second to largest pitcher-size had enough for 3 people to have two...
Read moreFirst, let me point out what I love about the place. The atmosphere is great, there is a bar where one can enjoy the Mexican-ish environment. It is two stories so even on a very busy day, there is a chance that you can find a seat. There are many seating arrangements from 2-4 people tables to tables you find in diners for big groups. Overall this place really makes you feel comfortable. The staff that helped us that day were superb and very friendly, I definitely felt welcomed. There are many items on the menu to choose from. I even ordered a "Michelada" which wasn't on the menu. I asked the staff that it isn't on the menu and he said "well if you have a request for drinks, they'll do it" which is pretty cool.
Ok now the bad and why I am giving this restaurant a 2-star. The food is simply not that good. Maybe it was just the items we had that weren't that "good" but it really wasn't. We tried over 4 items which we thought looked good but they were just "ok." It just didn't feel authentic. Don't get me wrong, it was good but the spices weren't quite right. The other thing. It's quite expensive for what you get. We got 4-5 items thinking it would make us full and paid about ¥4000 ($40) only to walk outside and still feeling unsatisfied.
With that said, it's worth giving it a shot if you've lived in Japan for so long and are craving Mexican food. If you're a fellow traveler, I'd stay away and try your luck...
Read moreTotally not worth the hype or the money. Without exaggerating, I'd rather eat Taco Bell than eat here ever again. It was far and away the most disappointing restaurant I've been to in Japan. I LOVE Mexican food and wish I could give this place 0 stars for their food and price...
This place looks like it should be good (cool vibe, lively atmosphere and friendly staff). Their food is just not good.
Appetizers: Carne asada tostadas were way too sweet and very tough. Nachos were average and they use a very plain cheese/bean combination. 1/5 overall score for appetizers.
Entrees: We got a taco platter that included chicken pibil, Chipotle beef and Carne asada. We also (stupidly) ordered picadillo
The chicken was cold, basically flavorless and not that tender. The Chipotle beef was cold and tasted too sweet. The Carne asada was similarly disappointing.
Worst of all, the picadillo was loaded with mushrooms for some strange reason and just not good. I smothered it in Chipotle sauce and cholula to make it edible. 0/5 stars for Entrees.
Drinks: Flavloress margarita was overpriced. 0/5 stars.
Service: Our waiter was very friendly and attentive, which was a plus.
Value: Way too expensive to be this bad. -5 stars for value.
Avoid this place. Save your money and go to Chiles in Harajuku or...
