Stumbled upon this while exploring harajuku with my girlfriend. She’s vegetarian so we wanted to try some ramen that was as close to the traditional version as we could but without the meat. We were blown away. The menu is great, serving alot of classic japanese ramen, curry and snack type dishes that make meal selection an absolute feast. I think there is even a burger on the menu. They also have a gluten free rice noodle option so even if uou are a celiac you can eat here! They ahave great japanese beer on draft and a cozy atmosphere that overlooks one of the biggest shopping boulevards in Tokyo. It can be a bit crowded, so you might have to wait to be seated. We were lucky that they had free spots when we arrived. The best part of the experience was us meeting an american businessman that was sitting next to us and started talking to us. We talked about travelling and the kind of feeling that tokyo had given us in our first couple of days here. After we were done the kind man left before us and when i came to the counter the server said the man had just paid for our meal. So if he ever reads this, we appreciate him alot! Vegan Bistro Jangara is an amazing place and i strongly recommend it to any vegan, vegetarian or anyone that loves great ramen. Restroom was also very clean. The prices are very good with most ramen dishes being around 1400 yen. Almost half of what we could pay for it in our own country...
Read moreWe came to this place around 6 on a Sunday night right as dinner time started. Already a line had formed. It probably took about 45 minutes to an hour for our party of 3 to be seated. While the food was pretty good (the buffalo chicken appetizer was great, tonkatsu ramen flavor bold and strong, not a huge fan of the soy meat- weird taste, odd texture)for the price, I wasn’t incredibly impressed. I also found the service to be lacking. We ordered a cola and had to ask one more time for it as the waiter forgot it. Close to the end of the meal, we asked to have waters refilled but never got it done. There was just one waiter for a busy dining room; with items being forgotten and service not fulfilled, I would hope for the restaurant to staff properly in the future. Also I’d recommend a time limit for busy nights as there was a party before us that had finished their meals but were sitting and talking for nearly 2 hours.
It is quite difficult to find good vegan options in Japan/Tokyo so I’m glad this place at least exists and offers decent food. All in all, I’m glad I tried this place but would not return...
Read moreWe stopped at Vegan Bistro Jangara before our shopping day in Harajuku. We had our eye on trying this place, as it’s pretty close to some great shopping and has a fully vegan menu. You take a small elevator up (mind the door, it’s out for blood) and then enter into a small restaurant. They have small benches for waiting, and we had about a 15 minute wait to be seated. Once we were seated, we had prompt service. I ordered the seasonal ramen option, which was a black sesame garlic and my husband got the Vegan Karabon.
My husbands was creamy, and he opted for the extra soy meat and additional gyoza as a side. It was really well flavored, and not overly salted. They are generous with the amount of ingredients they use, and he found it super filling. The gyoza were small, but very delicious. I really enjoyed my ramen, which had such a great garlic based aroma. It was rich, and really well crafted. I found myself wanting this ramen again after we were gone!
