I’m Japanese and have always liked this restaurant chain. I’ve been to the Ura-Harajuku location many times, but this was my first time at the Shibuya branch. It had also been a while since I last visited Madosh Café.
I came here with my foreign boyfriend, and while he was looking at the English menu, I was checking the Japanese one. However, I noticed that some items were only listed on the Japanese menu, which was really confusing. The menus were different depending on the language, and this was the first time I’ve encountered something like this in Japan.
Compared to the Ura-Harajuku location, the food quality was lower—the dishes were too salty and the portions were small. The avocado smoothie was also too sour and not tasty. When I went to the Ura-Harajuku branch, everything was delicious, so I was disappointed.

Read moreI went with a friend for dinner after work. We didn't need a reservation. The menu isn't large. It has pictures and descriptions in Japanese. There may have been an English menu as well. You order at the counter and pick at the counter. Most things are self-service. There is also free soup. I ordered the yukke bowl, the salmon spring rolls, and the avocado tempura. The spring roll was food. It tasted like smoked salmon. The yuuke bowl was good, though spicier than expected. The tempura had a nice crust, but it was overly salty. I would return if someone else wanted to...
Read moreMy friend and I came in and ordered food. I used my Japanese while ordering but scanned the English menu. The conversation forced into me speaking Japanese and being responded to in mostly English, and later my friend and I looked at the Japanese menu and realized there is a 1000 円 difference to the English menu. Even if I didn’t look at the menu I probably would have been charged the 2800 円 instead anyway. It’s 1800 円 for the same thing.
Saying that the excuse is because foreigners have money and the yen is weak currently isn’t a good look. Won’t be returning or...
