When in Rome ... We wanted a great sushi experience! We were turned down at a place up the street - no room here! So when we found Miki Sushi, we were in heaven. We were seated at the table - yes, take your shoes off and have a seat! Yes, this is what we were looking for.
It's one of those odd things, we're American strangers in a local Sushiya. We placed our orders - eat whatever you want tonight! My friend told me I have to have uni in Japan, so I ordered uni. We ordered a lot of sushi. We ordered some saki and beer. The lady taking our order was fantastic! Gracious and super respectful. She brought wave after wave of sushi. Delicious and so fresh! The flavors are amazing! We ate and ate and ate. Then some of the locals asked us where we're from (they were sitting at the bar). They spoke English and we had a great conversation! We found out they were all doctors and they get together every week to have sushi! They told us about our hotel - Hotel Sakurai just a couple blocks away. We found out it was once a dormatory for students at the medical school. Hmmm, that sure makes sense! We had a great time - it felt like Cheers in Tokyo! Again, very gracious, respectful young men and women, which is so nice to see!
We were so full! We all thoroughly enjoyed the entire evening. From the traditional seating, to the wonderful owners (wife is the waitress and husband the sushi chef), the comfortable feeling, great food and the doctors - you can tell they're awesome friends!
If you're in the area, please stop by and have a great sushi meal. This is a magical place! We highly...

On my first day in Japan this restaurant got recommended by my hotel. It was my first ever day in Japan and I didn’t speak Japanese nor was used to Japanese customs. But the owners and other guest welcomed me warmly. The lady helped me ordering with Google translate. The man was constantly smiling making the sushi, which was an absolute pleasure to watch. The restaurant is decorated with all tiny little things to watch. And the sushi was simply delicious!
But the best of all was that the other guests were very chatty and happy to interact. This whole atmosphere made me feel like in a movie scene!
At the end of my Japan I wanted to go back once more. This turned out to be the best evening of our trip. The other guests were so nice again! And we received some tiny sushi!!! This restaurant made my trip to japan...
Read moreWhat an amazing experience! The elderly couple who run this restaurant are incredibly kind. The sushi chef is highly skilled, we even saw him fillet a tuna tail, and he kindly explained a few things about it with the words he knew. Their English isn’t very strong, but for us that wasn’t a downside at all; in fact, it made the whole experience feel more authentic and local.
The menu even has a few helpful phrases in Japanese, and they truly appreciate it if you give them a try. The sushi itself was outstanding, unlike anything we’ve had elsewhere. Exceptionally fresh, with a touch of wasabi already brushed onto the sushi so that every bite was perfectly balanced.
One thing to note: prices are not listed on the menu, you find out afterward. For two people we paid €50, which included sake, complimentary small Miso soup, tea, and even...
