I never write food reviews but I’ll write one here. Tokyo has amazing and a lot of award-winning pizza restaurants, but they’re mostly Italian pizza. I love Italian pizzas but I’m American and I want to sit on a curb with a giant greasy slice bigger than my face that I look unattractive eating.
Rather few American pizza joints around, not to mention they’re usually not a “pizza joint” but a little on the fancy, hip, cool-factor vibes. Tonyz is truly a pizza joint down the street in a low key residential area and the pizza is delicious. The crust is definitely crispy NY style, the cheese is melty but not stringy and unstructured like the Italian style pies, the flavor and char on the dough is awesome. Go support!!!
Recommend grabbing a slice on a paper plate, and taking it to the nearby riverside to enjoy on a nice day. You won’t find trash bins nearby so...
Read moreAs a new yorker who has lived in Japan for almost a decade, it's always a struggle to find good pizza in Tokyo.
So there are three things about this place to consider.
No. 1 Yes, it's definitely NY style pizza. Great crisp, good char on the dough. Easy to fold and it's not messy. The only complaint I have about the pizza is that maybe the sauce could use some salt or other herb seasoning like oregano or basil. Regardless, if you're looking for genuine NY style pizza, this is the place you wanna go.
No. 2 It's cashless payment only. So you need some payment app or card. This particular branch is also only open on the weekends. There are a few places to sit outside but my guess is that takeaway pies would be the star of the show here.
No. 3 Edit: address was initially incorrect but is now fixed.
Overall, very nice, will be back again,...
Read moreTony makes a great pie without a doubt. He lived in NYC and wanted to create a good pizza spot, and I think he’s done it. I ordered a cheese slice and a pepperoni slice and ate it in front of the store where there are a couple of small tables available. The slice was generous and the taste excellent, with a nice, crispy crust and the perfect amount of cheese. The price is a bit higher than other pizza slice shops, but it’s worth it. He’s doing it on his own and would like to expand if things work out. Here’s hoping...
