Niigata Katsudon Tarekatsu - Main Store — Restaurant in Tokyo

The food was good, but the service was terrible. I visited on the evening of January 4 and was dining alone, standing next to a group of 5 people waiting to be seated. There was a vacant seat when I arrived, but the young female staff member (with small eyes and a ponytail, whose name I didn’t catch) refused to seat me until the group was accommodated. Even her male colleagues appeared confused by her actions.

Although the group of 5 were fine with being seated separately in groups of 3 and 2 as seats became available, leaving the single vacant seat unaffected, she still didn’t seat me. Only after there was enough space for the group did she finally direct me to the seat that had been empty the entire time. To reiterate, the group of 5 and I entered the restaurant at exactly the same time, and I made it clear to her that I was not with them and was dining alone. Despite this, she chose to prioritize them, ignoring me and leaving me standing there for a good 25 minutes, feeling like a fool.

The group happened to be Caucasian, while I am Asian, which made me question whether discrimination was at play. When I asked her for an explanation, she pretended not to understand. This experience was extremely frustrating, and I will not...

I had stumbled upon this place while staying in the area and what a local find! The Katsu here was delicious and definitely more of local spot away from the busy streets.

Food: ordered a Pork Fillet Katsu, Prawn, Vegetable-Don & it was a delicious and hearty meal. Came with a side of miso-soup which was perfect for a rainy day.

Service: Staff was friendly and service was quick.

Atmosphere: Bit of smaller restaurant with limited seating, but it adds to the charm and vibe of this place as a quaint local spot.

An ordinary-looking shopfront conceals the best Wiener-Schnitzel-style thin breaded pork cutlet in Tokyo. Marinated in a sauce consisting of secret Coca-Cola-type recipe, the meat is rich in flavour and golden in appearance.
