Sushi Tanji was an AMAZING experience. We had a reservation for three people but our third got sick and couldn't come. I was completely ready to eat the money according to their policy, but the chef was kind enough to give us a small bento of the prepped sushi of what he could pack (even with a little ice pack!) and gave us both a little bit more sake for the three we paid for. That's just their kindness! There was a little bit of a language barrier, but I was expecting a full language WALL so our communication level was delightful.

The food itself was AMAZING. Best omakase I've ever tasted. It was worth every penny for the experience and the sheer amount and quality of food! If you start to get full you can always ask for a bit less rice! The sake pairings were delightful and every single bite was SO good. I had fish I'd ever even heard of and their service was amazing too! Highly recommend the tea room experience. They explained the different parts and the little dessert was soooo good with the matcha! Just be warned, it is hard to come through the small opening and sit on the ground with that full...

First time being in Japan I wanted to try some Omakase sushi and this place did not disappoint.

The food was absolutely delicious and everything was done with such care and grace that it set the bar very high for any future I dining that I will be partaking in.

The place is small and intimate, with soft piano playing in the background while the sushi chef works his magic. I've also had the pleasure of participating in a traditional tea ceremony which involved fresh matcha from Kyoto and a delicious handmade dessert.

There was a selection of delicious sake that I've had the chance to pair with the sushi which elevated the whole experience to a new level.

Japan has been on bucket list for a while to visit and eating at this restaurant was the perfect conclusion to a very memorable trip.

I will definitely be back to eat at this restaurant next time I'm in Japan.

Thank you for your hospitality,...

Japan’s 1st & Only Sushi Omakase with a Tea Room

Sushi Tanji located in upscale Akasaka sources most of its seasonal fishes from Goto Island in Nagasaki prefecture that’s famous for a variety of fresh seafood including flying fish that’s common used in soups like the sweet-tasting dashi for the Goto Udon served as the first course of the meal.

Other popular fishes include bonito that the chef smoked with Sakura imparting an intense smoky aroma

The omakase consists of 12 pieces of Edomae sushi along with delicious seasonal appetisers and dishes that were all skilfully executed

Dessert is served in the tea room, where the Matcha Tea ceremony takes place.

Overall, I recommend everyone to try this unique experience that you won’t find elsewhere

This was probably the best dining experience I've ever had. The staff was incredible, the food was phenomenal. If I could give this place more stars, I would. We did the Sake pairing as well, and thoroughly enjoyed that. The tea ceremony was great and I will certainly try my best to come again next time I'm in Tokyo! The staff was so friendly and I actually requested if we could take a picture with them real quick, they ran outside with us and did so! Truly a great experience, and one I'll remember the rest of my life! 10 out of 10 experience, it was perfect!
