During my time in Tokyo, this was by far the most disappointing (and also the most expensive) meal I had. We chose the "course" menu, which consisted of five dishes. Service: The service was extremely slow, even though there were only a few other diners present. We waited over 30 minutes between finishing one dish and receiving the next. Eventually, we had to ask the server to speed things up because we needed to leave. Despite being seated at the bar directly in front of the waitress, our plates were not cleared until the next dish arrived. Having experienced consistently excellent service elsewhere in Japan, this was a major letdown. Value and Pricing: The meal was not good value, and the restaurant misrepresented its prices. The website listed the course at 6,600 yen, but when it came time to pay, we were told it was actually 8,800 yen because the price "changes depending on the dishes." This was not clearly indicated. There was also a cover charge of about 1,000 yen for dinner, and drinks were very overpriced. Food: The quality of the food varied. The Spanish mackerel and tomato dish was excellent, and the Osaka cheese with olive oil was good. However, the beef tenderloin, while cooked well, was too chewy. One of the five dishes was simply a small plate of edamame. Portions were small, and I left still hungry—I ended up stopping at 7-Eleven for snacks afterward. Overall: In a city where it’s usually hard to go wrong with food, this meal was a real...
Read more2500 yen for a 500ml beer. 600 daytime or 1100 evening cover charge. I had 2 x 500ml beers that cost me 6100 yen (£33 in my world...) I'm not the biggest beer snob, but I do really like craft beers (I have the moobs to prove it) and I like to search out places that serve really nice ones, and this place had a great google rating.... I was really looking forward to checking this place out but felt massivelly ripped off. I wondered if it was an 'english' menu I was given, but no, I saw a local get the same menu.. The beer I had was completely average - suposedly an IPA but it could have been a lager as far as I could tell. It might have been worth it if the atmosphere felt exclusive or high end, but the bar was sparse in terms of decor etc, and had no atmosphere at all. Service was ok, but I guess my experience has been totally determined by the value aspect. I hate to do this to a small business, but I can't see why anyone should fall into the same trap I did. There are plenty of brewpubs that sell excellent craft beers for 1500-1800 yen, likely with a much lower cover sharge too, I just can't get my head around why this place is charging so much more...their heads...
Read moreOmg so expensive. We spent more on two Belgian beers here, than we did on 20 beers in Belgium last year. However, the beer was indeed delicious and the service impeccable. There's also an additional ¥500/pp cover charge. I note that people are calling this a 'local' bar, however of the 10 beers on tap, only 2 were from Japan. It was a nice place - the vibe was...
