Syabu-yo is a cheaper option for all-you-can-eat shabushabu. You pay from ¥1,199 (currently $11 or €10 of you go for lunch with just 1 option of pork. Then there are other prices depending on what other meats you want, and evening time is ¥400 extra but also 100min instead of 80min to finish).
With any choice, you get a wide variety of sides for the shabu (udon, ramen noodles and glass noodles, potato salad, rice, curry sauce, veggies, mushrooms, sauce for the meat) and even sushi (you have to order it with a paper on your table and place the paper at the sushi area near the kitchen).
You also have access to hot tea and dessert! Make your own cotton candy, waffle, ice, or ice cream. The section is quite incredible and fun to play with.
When you order you get a first set of meats at your table, and when you want more, you ring a caller on the table and ask for the meata you want to add.
We chose the 2 pork + 2 beef combo, which at night costed ¥2,099 ($19.30). We chose just 1 soup, the sukiyaki soup. You can add a 2nd choice for ¥100. However, they gave us sukiyaki and regular soup, and that counted as extra ¥100 that we werent expecting. Maybe any choice is extra money.
Now the reason I gave 3 stars and not 4 or 5 is because we also got charged for 2 eggs that we hadnt ordered, each of us got charged additional almost ¥300 for the soup and the egg, so our total came to ¥4,618. ($42). Not that it was a lot extra, but we didnt order it. Instructions were not clear and the restaurant was so packed and busy it was a bit hard to talk with the servers.
Another reason not 5 stars, even though everything was delicious, the quality was so-so. It's a place frequented by students, I'd say not many people there were even 30 years old, with some looking like high schoolers.
We had to wait 50 minutes on a Tuesday night (from 615pm to 705pm). While I really enjoyed the experience, I dont think I'd go again, I'd rather eat just enough meat of good quality or in a nice environment than eat so much we cant walk afterwards and have stomachaches.
The dessert part was really fun though. If you want to go, plan to go on a weekday afternoon, probably less crowded and at least ¥400...
Read moreWent here on an early Friday evening and was seated without any reservation needed (during Golden Week too, nonetheless). My friend and I shared the 1800¥ AYCE course for the pork belly, and it was well worth it. We could split our pot into 2 broths, one was the sukiyaki which was free, second was a miso kimchi that was about 150¥ more but I loved it. Pork quality was fine, no complaints. Service was quick and ordering was done through an iPad which offered a menu in several different languages. I also enjoyed the sauce bar where you could make your own dipping sauce for the meat, as well as getting vegetables or rice with their own special curry. The food was brought to our table via cat robots, which was pretty cool. Overall great experience and would come here with...
(02/17) Let me share my experiences in this restaurant with the foreigners that want to visit here. The food is tasty and the price is good, but I had some problems with the service. First, I was in a group of foreigners, and a Taiwanese friend of mine ordered something in the menu, but the waiter told us that that thing was sold out. My friend couldn't listen to him saying that, so after 10 minutes she asked why what she ordered hadn't arrived yet. Then the waiter answered in a rude manner, like "when we say it's sold out, that means it's sold out". Second thing, the waiter kept hurrying us to pay fast even when there were 30 minutes left to end our turn. Thrid, even if it's writen on the warning, I think it's very inconvenient that the restaurant can't receive the money of the costumers one by one. So it caused us an uncorfortable situation.
