Sad to only give 3 stars given the majority of the food was really nice. A lot of fusion food from South East Asia and mixed with pasta and other rice dishes. The gyoza, ironically, was not something I would eat again if I was to go back. Not too much taste (apart from the boiled/steamed gyoza). The red chili fried chicken also unfortunately was very bland, although I appreciated the healthy serving of peanuts and dried chili that I ate instead.
The squid, and some of the daily specials were absolutely incredible and that alone makes me want to go back.
However the service was very subpar unfortunately. We were the first customers in at 6pm and by 9pm we still hadn't received all of our food and I ended up having to ask for the bill to get things moving along. Since everyone is forced to order 5 dishes and the kitchen is quite small, I assume this is what causes the time issue, but there was no acknowledgement of this or apology so I can only assume this is standard for them. Dishes came out in seemingly random orders based on what they were making at the time (for example two people who ordered the same dish received them an hour apart, salads came in the middle, etc).
What made the visit that little bit more annoying was that there was a sign mentioning that they provide free coffee if you pay in cash. Our bill for 6 people came to over 42000 yen and we scraped our cash together to pay, only to be told the coffee was for lunch time only. That's fine, but it wasn't mentioned on the sign, and given that lunch is ~1000 yen per person it's disappointing this couldn't be honoured given the fact.
I would try this place out for lunch assuming it has to be quicker to get your meal, but never again for dinner which is an...
Read moreAs an international traveler, I had an incredibly disturbing and frightening experience at She Meguro that I feel compelled to share. This incident was particularly jarring as I had also dined at the restaurant for lunch on the very same day, which should underscore that my assessment is entirely unbiased.
When I received the bill at dinner, the total was higher than I anticipated, and the bill itself was incomprehensible to me. I politely asked the waitress for clarification, and once it was explained, I paid without further comment and left the restaurant.
However, as I was leaving, the cook/owner appeared from the top of the building and began yelling at me in a fit of rage. He then ran down the stairs aggressively and confronted me face-to-face in the street, clearly attempting to provoke a confrontation. I felt incredibly threatened and in danger.
I tried to calm him down, but he continued to yell, accusing me of protesting the bill and saying other things that were difficult to understand due to his broken English. It took a significant amount of effort to de-escalate the situation.
This kind of aggressive and menacing behavior from a restaurant owner is absolutely unacceptable. No customer should ever be subjected to such an intimidating display, especially when simply asking a question about the bill.
I urge others to consider this experience carefully before choosing to dine here. While the food is good, the owner's conduct was appalling and made me feel...
Read moreI had an amazing brunch experience at SHE! The atmosphere of the 1st floor (café & house pottery shop) where, on weekdays you can have lunch or coffee, and on weekends the brunch menu; is very sophisticated and the staff incredibly welcoming.
The BRUNCH MENU, available at noon on weekends is my recommendation. You can choose from gyoza, pasta or meat sets. The house signature is gyoza so I got the gyoza set which came with: an entree+ sui gyoza + four types of grilled gyoza+ main dish and dessert. For around ¥1800. I say set, but honestly it was more like a course experience, with each dish coming carefully one after the other in the most beautiful presentation and the staff explaining to us the particularity of each dish. The food was Impeccable, I cannot recommend enough the dumplings (flavors I think are seasonal, and a mix of many Asian cuisines). The main dish, that you can choose for the set (we got gapao and bulgogi don) is of course good, but nothing compared to the dumplings. I’d go back to try all the creations of the house.
Even thought the address says Shinagawa ward the restaurant is 3min walking from...
