Spajiro — Restaurant in Tokyo

Canadian visitors.. saw this place a few days ago, and came back. Really wanted to try to bolognese with my husband. While we were being seated, a chef came out, rudely and harshly knocked shoulders with my husband as we were sitting down, did not apologize or say excuse me as is customary (he went to pick up something a previous patron dropped), glared at us, and then walked back to the kitchen slowly with a puffed chest. Just felt like a weird flex on my husband. Maybe it’s cause we’re white foreigners, maybe it’s because my husband is a bigger buffer guy and the chef felt emasculated, I don’t know. We are always ultra polite as is Japanese custom, we follow all the rules with a smile and a thank you. While we waited, we were given English menus and served iced green tea and two miso soups. We waited for about 15 minutes, locking eyes with our servers multiple times, and not one of them came to ask us what we would like to order - neither drinks nor meals. A male server came to look at our menus, seemingly to see if he needed a translator, but then never came back. We left them closed to signal we were ready to order, but we were ignored all the way. In the meantime, he and other waitresses talked to other patrons, cleared tables, served dishes, the works. It was highly unusual as Japanese service is always absolutely stellar but sitting in the middle of the room, being completely ignored by the staff, was not something we were anticipating here, especially when the restaurant is not at full capacity. Certainly made us feel like that short rotund chef had something against us after he (seemingly purposefully) bumped shoulders with us. I don’t know. My go-to place for a quick bite of Japanese-Italian pasta dishes. Whenever I go here, I always tend to order the same thing - Mentaiko Salmon Spaghetti. It’s a must have for people who love Mentaiko and want a little bit of protein to go with it.

There’s usually a small line for this location, but the service is usually very quick to make up for it.

Majority of the time, the noodles are cooked like a true al-dente; sometimes it’s a little bit more soft. Either way, the pasta is still full of flavor and the fact that you can add more toppings to it, makes the dish a bit more unique.

It is in a food court on the top floor and it can be quite loud, so just be wary if you’re sensitive to loud sounds. Nonetheless, I still recommend trying out Spajiro, even if it’s not...

Was good for grabbing some dinner while visiting Yodobashi Akiba.

I ordered salmon and spinach spaghetti in cream sauce and some karaage. The amount of pasta that came with the large size made up for the bland taste of the watery cream sauce. Spinach was mostly stems and not much of it. Small amount of salmon was in messy chunks but cooked nicely. Spaghetti was al dente.

Karaage was big, juicy, crispy, and piping hot. I really enjoyed them.
