If you’re in Tokyo and craving authentic South Indian flavors, Indian Curry Dining Cobara-Hetta in Akihabara is an absolute must-visit! From the moment you take your first bite, you’ll notice the richness and authenticity that’s hard to find in Japan. Their South Indian menu is thoughtfully crafted, and every dish brings something unique to the table.
The highlight for me was the tangy rasam, which was perfectly spiced with just the right amount of heat and acidity. It reminded me of the traditional home-cooked rasam that’s both comforting and invigorating. Alongside this, their sambar was packed with fresh vegetables and a rich blend of spices that made it the perfect complement. I also tried the paneer palak, a North Indian dish on their menu, which was creamy, flavorful, and had generous chunks of paneer that were beautifully cooked. It was a delightful addition to the meal, balancing the tangy notes of the South Indian dishes with its own rich, mild flavor profile.
To top it all off, the lassi was refreshing and mildly sweet, with a perfect texture that added a cooling touch to the spices. It’s the ideal drink to round off the meal, and it pairs wonderfully with the rest of the dishes.
In my two years in Japan, I’ve never had South Indian food that tasted this authentic. The experience can be summed up by the transformation of a plate filled with vibrant dishes to an empty, satisfied plate at the end. I strongly recommend this restaurant, especially for vegetarians, as it offers a wide variety of satisfying, authentic, and flavorful dishes. Indian Curry Dining Cobara-Hetta is a true gem that brings the essence of South Indian...
Read moreKind of hard to find the place right in the middle of the 8th floor of the big Yodabashi in Akihabara. Google Maps was typically unhelpful and I took a complete lap around the floor without finding it. Small restaurant but nice atmosphere and mixed staff, with Indians and Nepalese. Also friendly. I feel like I need to clarify my possible bias, because I don't like Yodobashi Camera anymore. That may be why I'm holding on a standard four rather than a high four stars. It was a nice thick Curry stock with an Indian spice level, not the weak Japanese spiciness. The naan had been cooked a few seconds too long, but it was still delicious. Generous with the pitcher of water, but no Wi-Fi. (One of my beefs with Yodobashi is that their Wi-Fi is generally unusable.) Kind of on the expensive side, but considering the location so close to the station and the fast service it's probably reasonable. Then I noticed the menu prices don't include tax, so I have to reduce it to a low four stars as definitely being on the high side as...
Read moreWe got the double curries plate for ¥1,518.
This comes with all you can eat naan, rice or roti and I got the naan. We also got to pick 2 of the curries shown in the menu so we tried butter chicken, honey butter chicken, keema, and palak chicken.
The naan was cooked really well, it’s oily, has a nice crust on the bottom, and is especially good when it’s freshly made. For the curries, the butter chicken is decent, it’s got a well balanced taste, slightly salty, very delicious. Though, my favourite is the honey butter chicken. It’s sweeter and you can definitely taste the honey which adds another dimension to the flavour. The keema is pretty good too, kind of salty and pretty delicious. The palak chicken is the one most different from the others i’ve tried, it’s a bit on the bitter side which isn’t bad too.
Overall, for the price it’s certainly very good value and delicious, I’d recommend trying this place if you’re looking for some...
