Small. Cute. Hidden. Local. Super Yum.
We stumbled upon Tamago Kitchen by accident, after a long day of wandering around Shibuya and on our way to Harajuku. The entrance is tucked around a corner and down a narrow flight of stairs. The restaurant itself is fairly small and I was, honestly, surprised by how empty it was.
We were seated and attended to quickly. Our server did her best to accommodate our lack of Japanese and we ordered 2 omelette rices, one with the beef stew and one with just the demi glaze. We both got our's omurice style.
Our meals came quickly and they were accompanied by a small bowl of chicken broth soup. To say we loved our meals and it was beyond delicious is an understatement. I'm sure the fact we were starving plays into it as well but the egg, rice and glaze were all just perfect and made for a great "just right" lunch. My partner loved it so much that he wanted to order a second helping but that seemed unwise as we still had exploring to do.
We were both so happy to have stumbled upon Tamago Kitchen! Thank you for having us.

Read moresuper cute and well-priced hidden location- but for vegetarians, WARNING because there is chicken in the rice. i honestly found it really crazy for there to be meat in a product without it saying in the description what it contains. i don't eat meat, which is why i got the option with tomato sauce & aubergines w mushrooms- but there was chicken in the omurice itself. i just think if you're advertising something as "rice omelette", you really have to specify it is rice CHICKEN omelette. that really bothered me, but i find this a common problem with japanese cuisine (not listing allergens or ingredients honestly). anyways, if you're a meat eater then this is a lovely little joint- it was very tasty, and they have free wifi/outlets 🙌💗 btw the handle is broken so don't grab it as support while walking down the stairs, as it is a little steep and the handle comes easily out...
Read moreI tried this place a number of years back when it was at the front of the building. When I was back at Harajuku today, I found that this shop had moved to the back of the building (the building on the right of the “I’m donut?” shop). Small staircase at the back going down to B1. Picked my usual omu rice with demi-glace sauce in the fuwattoro style with the salad and drink set. The set also came with a bowl of clear soup. Service was quick and my dish came within 6-7 minutes. Was pleasantly surprised to find that the egg texture was spot on (soft and a bit runny) and the rice was piping hot. You could see the steam from the dish. Taste was as I remembered and really delicious! The dish got polished off in minutes. Only complaint was the small size of the place as there were some tourists that were talking...
