I normally do not frequent indian restaurants while on overseas travel, as i prefer to sample the local fare. During this trip to tokyo, was an enforced vegetarian ( religious reasons for a couple of months), and ran out of local veg options quickly. Hence, when my colleague suggested this place , had to accept. Very good, simple tasting food. The dal takda the as robust and they had a very good saag paneer dish. My colleague tried the lassi with rum and was predictably "happy" after downing her glass. Ended up going again the next day and this time my colleagues decided on the set meal and could see them licking their fingers. My baingan bharta was top notch too. Rotis were crisp/ soft as you ordered and made of wjeat( no refined flour that i could taste). The highlight though was the excellent and customised service from the staff and the owner. They first got me a butter roti and when i did not want it they happily replaced it with a plain one. a must try if you around this place.
Warning.... spiciness is adjusted for the japanese palate, you need to add to increase...
Read moreNice atmosphere and very close to the station. Lots of alcohol on display, so they must do drinking business in the evenings. Basic lunch is not available on weekends, which counts a bit against them. Japanese news on TV, and overall atmosphere of an izakaya. Has Wi-Fi and fast service, but a bit of confusion about my order. Staff seems to be mostly Indian.
The base of the curry was about four out of five for thickness and the vegetable curries were good, though I wasn't as satisfied with the chicken curry. They didn't ask about spice levels, and I would say it was to Japanese taste, mild. The naan was not sweet, but the large naan was unevenly cooked and I got the impression they favored their small naan instead. No salad, but a few spicy onion pieces. Also got smokey before I left. Overall, I have to call it a low 4 stars and if anything else had gone wrong it could have gotten down to a high 3.
Tax was extra, which is actually the second thing after I wrote the first draft. So I have to cut it down to a...
Read moreVisited last week for the first time in many years, though dining quite regularly in its Shibuya Seibu branch. I ordered the simplest lunch special consisting of Nan, Chicken curry, Hot Masala Chai, in addition to the sumptuous Murg Makhani, a rich gravy enhanced with generous use of dairy ingredients, with chunky pieces of the house's palatable Tandoori Chicken.
The restaurant was highly generous chiefly in two ways; the Chicken curry was served in an extra portion with no extra charge, and was flexible to take my aforementioned Murg Makhani order despite it being a dinner-time offer. Both of the curries were rich and chunky with generously cut chicken, that matched the fluffy Nan perfectly.
With the friendly, yet professional staff members, the house gave me a glimpse into what the lunch and dinner times of the Emperors of the Mughal Empire should have been.
