Overall a polarizing experience.
It's mostly either love-it-or-hate it impressions. First of all note that it's a true members club, so if you are not a member the quality of your experience may vary.
As a member you will get access to some fine premium services and locations the general public does not have the privilege to use.
If you can appreciate this than this might be the club for you.
Should you participate in an event taking place at the TAC, kindly note that the TAC only speaks directly to their members, organizers of the event.
So any inquiry you might have, regarding car parking, food allergy etc. or other event details, they are happy to refer you to the organizer and otherwise not answer any questions and they are not shy of making this point very clear.
Having this kind of attitude in a country that is known worldwide for their Omotenashi service feels to me like a punch in the face or as a strong contradiction.
Your personal experience and potentially those of your business partners, families and friends depends strongly on how you enter into this...
Read moreThe Tokyo American club is a very well known members club located in the heart of Tokyo. It's been around for a while, it's a great place for networking and meetings. Meetings. They do have strict rules about certain things like certain areas. You can't wear a t-shirt. You have to have a jacket or collar shirt on. You can't wear hats. Guess the members are separated in a sense of what you're able to do. It is a great place for families with kids because of all the activities they do as well as facilities they have for the family. Restaurants and sporting facilities basketball courts things like that. It is very expensive to become a member so don't be surprised at the yearly bill. It's definitely a place to go for networking and meeting the right people because everybody there is either ahead of a company or part of something big or celebrity or athlete. You get what you pay for I guess But for new foreigners living to in Japan or even local Japanese. If you're thinking about your family and all the benefits then yes it's definitely a place...
Read moreI had the pleasure to visit recently. The Club was not quite what I expected. It was very clean, but then japan is very clean. There were nice work out areas, but then many (esp American style) Japan hotels have nice workout areas, including full basketball gyms. TAC has an American style pub/grill, and 2 other Asian style grill, along with the chop House. The restaurant service we had here was average far below typical Japanese service. ||We stayed at the Westin Tokyo. Marriott biwako, and sheraton Tokyo Bay, TAC is very secure, but then japan is a relatively safe place. I did not quite see the reason for the high cost of TAC. That is until we realized that it is located next to the Embassy. TAC is probably the perfect place for the Diplomats and their families; and business professionals and their families. Otherwise, I recommend to just enjoy Tokyo for the Japanese experience you came for, and wait until you get home...
