Tonkatsu Iwai — Restaurant in Tokyo

I’ve been visiting Tonkatsu shops listed in the Michelin Guide and saw that Nomotoya is located near my office so I decided to come here for lunch. I arrived around 12pm and there was a line. It took about an hour before I got seated.

I ordered the Rosu Katsu 160g set meal (recommended menu) which costs ¥2300.

I mainly used just salt instead of the tonkatsu sauce and I liked it. I crushed the sesame seeds in the container and then mixed tonkatsu sauce in there. I wasn’t sure if I prepared the sauce correctly because I saw other people put the sauce in a separate saucer and THEN mix the crushed sesame seeds in there. But I also saw one other person do I what I did so maybe it doesn’t really matter. Other people recommended trying it with wasabi. I am not a fan of wasabi so I didn’t try it.

It was good, I guess, but while eating, I couldn’t help but think about the other Tonkatsu shops I’ve tried (that’s also included in the Michelin guide.) I also haven’t considered coming back yet, at least not anytime soon. So I guess that says something. Again, the food itself was good. But I’m not sure I can say it was well worth the price.

I went here after the lunch rush (around 1pm) and I was surprised to find out that the regular lunch menu was no longer available. Definitely good katsu with high quality ingredients. It ended up being around ¥2,000 with second servings of rice, soup or cabbage for an extra ¥100. Only negative part was when the staff shushed us and asked that we refrain from speaking (once while wearing a mask and another while eating), when other tables with larger groups were having conversations freely. I respect the restrictions around COVID-19, but this was the first time I was told to stop talking. Wouldn’t...

もう２度と行かないと決めた日の出来事です。 １０分ほど並んで着席、料理もってきた店員（結婚を機に退職するとのこと）が いきなり「何かあるなら直接店長にいってください！」と。。

営業中は忙しいから気を使って手が空いたら店長に電話するようにいうと かけてくるも話も聞かず一方的に勘違いした話をしだす始末。

こちらの話など理解もできないのか、勝手な想像で話を続ける姿勢には驚愕でした。 ちなみに50回以上食べて、一度だけ味が変な時がありそれを店員に言ったことにたいして直接言ってほしかったと言い出す。 それに対して調理で忙しい上にカウンターの奥にいる店長にわざわざ言えないでしょうというと 体が大きかったらそれぐらいいえるでしょう！と。 体の大小は関係あるのでしょうか？

さらにこちらとしてはそういう時もあるよね、ぐらいの気持ちだったのでその次も普通に来店して食べていたのに 証拠がないからそんなことわからないじゃないですか！？と声を荒げてきたのにはびっくり。 一度も味が変でお腹痛くなったが、賠償しろだのどうこうということは一切いっていないにもかかわらず頭がおかしいとしか思えない。

店員の対応も変なことが多かった。 ipadを使っていると「パソコン」は使用禁止ときつくいわれたり 混んでいて20分以上ならんでタイミング的にテーブル席に案内されるも気を使って早く食べた。 にも関わらず次の方がいるので、早く退席をと言われる。 その時点でテーブルに料理のある人の中で一番最後に入店して、 一番最初に食べ終わり時間にして１０分少々でこんなこといわれたのは人生で初めて。
