This is the timeless tonkatsu experience in Akasaka
For over 50 years, this family-run tonkatsu restaurant in the heart of Akasaka has been serving some of the most authentic and satisfying tonkatsu in Tokyo. With a commitment to quality and tradition, it has earned a loyal followers among locals and visitors alike.
What sets this place apart is the variety of meats available. While the classic pork cutlet is the star, they also offer unique options like oyster and seafood tonkatsu, each fried to perfection with a crisp, golden crust. The batter is light yet incredibly crunchy, allowing the natural flavors of the meat and seafood to shine.
One of the standout items is their tonkatsu sandwich. A delightful combination of simple bread and crispy pork cutlet, fresh cucumber, and fluffy eggs, they are surprisingly light yet satisfying - a perfect snack or quick meal. I recommend to order both as sandwich is not that heavy.
The tonkatsu sauce is another highlight. Unlike the usual thick and overly sweet varieties, theirs is well-balanced, rich in flavor but not overpowering. It enhances the tonkatsu without masking its quality.
With its welcoming atmosphere and decades of expertise, this restaurant continues to uphold its legacy of excellence. Whether you’re craving a classic tonkatsu meal or something a little different, this hidden gem in Akasaka is well...
Read morePork loin special with meat miso soup and a Sapporo were delicious. Don’t forget the tonkatsu sauce at the table, it was very good.
It was not busy on a Wed night, and had a casual and peaceful atmosphere. When the staff noticed my coworker and I translating the table menu, they kindly brought an English menu without us even asking. The staff is very friendly and also notified us it was cash only before we ordered.
The staff was courteous and genuinely seemed to care that we had a good experience, and even the kitchen staff seemed to be politely curious if we were enjoying the meal. It is an open kitchen inside with visibility to/from all the seats: which are 23 total with 11 seats at a counter facing the kitchen and 3 tables with 4 seats each.
The staff was also professional, cleaning up quickly and efficiently for every table that left. Everything seemed to have its place, it was kept in order and clean front and back.
I will definitely return and look forward to more.
