Today was the worst experience I never expected from such a nice place to enjoy good food. My family has visited here numerous times, and because of one chef, the entire image of this restaurant was ruined. I am horrified by how my family was treated compared to the Japanese lady sitting next to my mother. Whenever we ordered food, he shouted 'Nani!' and 'mienai!' I have never experienced any waitress or waiter say such things, let alone the sushi chef to a customer. And on the other hand, he was so nice and calm towards the Japanese lady sitting next to my mother. He checked if the food was good and if she needed anything. Even his Japanese terms were all polite and properly mannered. Just because we speak Korean to each other doesn't mean we don't understand or speak Japanese. We understand well enough to tell when you speak Japanese rudely. Especially as customers who know how to enjoy good food and show our decent manners (we weren’t loud or showed any disrespect towards anyone in that restaurant), this was an unacceptable treatment by the chef who works at this level of fine dining. How is it possible that this chef was called (not even by himself, the manager had to call him five times to apologize), he didn't show any regrets for what he did to my family and ruined our evening. He even started to talk back to us in front of the manager instead of apologizing. When other customers started to pour into the area, he stopped. Is this the attitude and manner that a chef is supposed to have and...

Visited in October 2025. Japan 🇯🇵 Tokyo.

Walking by, we were drawn in by the vibrant sushi signage advertising individual pieces, allowing us to customize our order. The restaurant is located on the second floor, and we settled in at the counter for a front-row view of the action.

FOOD:

This sushi and nigiri spot also offers various Japanese appetizers. Since we weren’t too hungry, we selected just a few pieces to gauge the quality. The otoro (fatty tuna) was rich and flavorful, with sweet, melt-in-your-mouth fat, though it had some slightly chewy membranes, as is common. The ama-ebi (sweet shrimp) was juicy, sweet, and impeccably fresh, showcasing excellent quality. The uni (sea urchin) was sweet and buttery with a creamy texture, good but not the finest we’ve had. The sardine, lightly marinated, was fresh and delicious. Overall, the sushi was top-notch. The rice was slightly sticky and pleasant, though a touch less rice would have balanced the fish better.

SERVICE:

The service was outstanding, with a charming chef who spoke some English, preparing our food with care. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, making us feel genuinely appreciated as guests.

VERDICT:

Tsukiji Tama Sushi is a solid sushi restaurant where you can order piece by piece, offering a refined dining experience far above chain restaurants. While not at the level of an omakase, the quality food and inviting atmosphere make it a great choice. Highly recommended for a quality sushi stop...

⭐⭐⭐½ (3.5/5)

I visited this sushi restaurant today after a recommendation from a friend living in Tokyo, and I must say it did not disappoint! Located conveniently near the Tsukiji Fish Market, the atmosphere was lively and quite crowded when I arrived, which added to the experience.

The quality of the fish was exceptional—everything tasted incredibly fresh. I highly recommend booking a table at the counter in front of the chef for a more intimate experience; it's definitely worth it!

The menu is available in English, and the waitstaff speak decent English, making it easier to navigate the options. However, there’s a paper order system that’s only in Japanese. Thankfully, the staff were more than willing to help me with my order in English, which I appreciated.

As for the pricing, I found it to be reasonable but perhaps not quite reflective of the quality I expected. It wasn’t bad, but I was hoping for a little more bang for my buck.

Make sure to try the grilled clams—they were massive and delicious! The roasted cod fish roe was also a standout dish.

Overall, a solid sushi dining experience that I would recommend, especially for the fresh fish and...

This is a nice sushi spot located in the high end shopping mall, Omotosando Hills. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of sushi here. The place has a few sit down tables and about 6-8 counter spots at the sushi bar. They have set course at different price points and a full menu as well with tons of ala carte options. I wasn’t too hungry so I opted for the smallest sushi set and it was amazing. Every piece of fish was great. For this quality sushi in the states, we would pay north of $150 per person. They also serve the freshest salad with the set. I loved the salad….not sure what type of greens they used but it was super cold and refreshing. The greens they used are great and it was served with a light ponzu sauce topped with bonito shavings to add some umami. Service was great and very attentive plus they didn’t rush me to get out. OUTSTANDING QUALITY SUSHI FOR THE PRICE! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
