We had an excellent experience for dinner here! The food quality was amazing across the board. My favorites were the Japanese beef teppanyaki, lamb roast, and the gelatos (the Hashima island something something one was the best - super milky tasting without feeling heavy). I am also usually not a tempura person but I tried some and they were very good!! The veggies were still juicy while being crispy on the outside, and it wasn’t super breaded or heavy. The portion sizes that the staff give you are excellent because they’re small, and it allows you to try everything. The menu was big but not overwhelmingly so, so we got to try almost everything and didn’t feel like we missed out on good stuff just from being too full.
The staff is incredibly courteous and professional. And the atmosphere was classy but without being stuffy or uncomfortable. We got an entire table for six to us (2) and it was amazing to have the extra space and privacy. We booked ahead of time earlier that day. I also saw some smaller tables that 1-2 people could sit at and they looked a bit closer together, not sure if that has anything to do with a reservation or not, but I’m glad we got the big table.
Also, big shout out to the staff! I asked about the Japanese garden for the hotel down stairs and if it was accessible at the time. The staff originally said it was closed but apparently went back to double check on it afterwards, because he came back in a minute to tell us that it’s open 24hr and also how to get to it!! A few minutes later, another staff member (manager?) also showed up with a map of the hotel to show us exactly how to get there. I definitely didn’t expect them to go so out of the way but I appreciated it a lot and they’ve really set a high bar for fine dining customer service to me.
I would absolutely come back.
PS. Also the garden is beautiful and I...
Read moreDisappointing experience. First visit to Japan post covid and we thought what better way to start our holiday with a well rated buffet lunch with great views. The views were great but quality of food was a big letdown for a food city like Tokyo. Ok but not great. The highlights were supposedly the beef and tempura dishes but we were given like 4 tiny bits of steak each time we queued to be served. I went back 2 more times then gave up. Tempura was even worst. We paid 9000+ yen for the supposedly all you can eat buffet, but were offered only one tiny piece of tempura prawn. So if you would like to have 4 prawns, y9vneed or queue up 4 times?seriously?it mar me felt as it I'm a beggar begging for food. Btw, we didn't bother queueing up for a second piece of tempura prawn because it tastes so bad. Prawn wasn't properly defrosted and has next to little to no taste. You can get better tempura prawn at any cheap eat in Tokyo..dessert wise.. nothing interesting and tasted very ordinary like any cheap bakery. We later found out that better quality cakes were offered for its high tea , they looked so much better than those for the buffet lunch. any memorable dish?yes , the roast beef which is probably the best dish for our buffet. Server was also much more generous, offering us decent potion when we queued. Will we go again?absolutely not. For over 9000 yen per pax, we can easily get much better food elsewhere in Tokyo without being made to feel like greedy diners whenever we need to queue up for...
Read moreMy third and fourth visit (March 11 Lunch and March 19 Dinner) to this restaurant. What makes this place so remarkable to me is their superior standard from guest service to culinary culture.
Only high-end restaurants serve sushi rice with red vinegar. I am glad to be served by Chef Takeuchi and his passion is fantastic. His finger pressure and touch of wasabi suit my palate the best. Chef Kashiwase is very serious with his sushi at my dinner and he is closer to local Japanese taste with a stronger touch of wasabi.
What impressed me with the tempura was the timing and the doneness. On the service side, the trainee lady was very attentive. She always brings a smile every time she takes an order. Her service from taking my order to plating the various items into an aesthetically beautiful dish was remarkable.
The beef section is technically flawless. The choice of beef was absolutely amazing. The fat to meat ratio is very balanced.
The sweet and sour pork and the fried chicken with scallion sauce are the signature dishes from the Chinese food section. The braised beef cheek is unstoppable once you start your first bite. The twice cooked pork, the beef stew were all exception. The Peking Duck here is far superior than those you have in China and Hong Kong. The wrap is chewy, slightly al dente mouth feel. It absorbs all the duck oil and blends so well with the sugar content of the wrap.
I love the tall chef who gets me rice at the Donhuri. He is a very passionate guy and will always laugh when I ask for rice in Omori portion. The Pork Donburi with Worcestershire Sauce is very delicious.
On desserts, Satsuki will never disappoint you. The super melon and strawberry cakes are a must already. For lunch, I love the custard cream profiteroles. The puff shell has a unique taste or caramel sugar with a note of almond. The Opera cake in a star. Even the jelly is very delicate. The Otani pancake? One is never enough.
If Michelin has a rating for buffet, this place should be a 2-star for its culinary technique, authentic recipe and exceptional service.
To make every moment impressive, the waitress who walked me to my table on March 3 dinner visit, she still remembers me and greeted me at my table. She is having great passion. Her greetings are elevating the experience with this restaurant. Passionate staff like her is a key reason why I will come back. The feeling conveys by their passion is irreplaceable elsewhere.
I will definitely come back again.
Satsuki...
